Towards the end of Max Dorsey’s latest PFSN Mock Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars could look for a tight end. The team knows that without Evan Engram, Brenton Strange may not be the answer.
Strange and Trevor Lawrence have shown signs of chemistry, but the team might be looking to load up on offense as this SEC tight end would be the perfect fit.
Jaguars Could Select Lawson Luckie with the No. 93 Pick
Standing 6’4″ and 240 pounds, the Georgia Bulldog is coming off a solid season where he had 24 receptions for 348 yards. With four touchdowns in 26 career receptions, the Georgia native posted an impressive 14.5 yards per reception last season.
Luckie finished the 2024 season with the most receiving yards among tight ends on the roster. He finished with exactly 100 more yards than Oscar Delp, even though Delp has an extra year of experience. Delp had more receiving yards in the 2023 season than he did in 2024, showing just how much faith the Bulldogs have in Luckie moving forward.
One of the biggest differences between Luckie and Delp is Luckie’s yards after the catch. Delp had 21 receptions, just three fewer than Luckie, but somehow finished with 100 fewer yards. His 11.8 yards per reception are nearly three yards less per catch than Luckie, which is something that Luckie would love to continue as the 2025 season approaches.
With Gunner Stockton taking over as quarterback, one has to wonder if Stockton will take a liking to Luckie as much as Carson Beck did. If not, Delp could have a chance to replicate his 2023 success and pass up Luckie on the depth chart.
What This Could Mean for Jacksonville
Knowing that Luckie is projected to be selected at No. 93, there’s plenty of room for growth. Even though Strange is just 24 years old, Luckie brings similar height and a slightly smaller frame. Lawrence loves his tight ends, so the two could end up being a dynamic duo if the Jaguars go that route.
Strange’s rookie deal was four years, $6.114 million. The Penn State graduate was selected at No. 61, which is quite higher than where Luckie is projected to go. Last season, Strange averaged 10.3 yards per reception as he hauled in 40 of his 53 targets for 411 yards.
Strange had just two touchdowns last season, a big difference compared to the eight Engram had in 2022-23 combined.
The Jaguars could benefit from adding another receiving threat at tight end. While Strange has shown flashes, his production hasn’t matched what Engram brought to the offense.
Luckie’s ability to create separation and gain yards after the catch could complement Strange’s skill set perfectly. Having two capable tight ends would give Lawrence more options in the passing game and create matchup problems for opposing defenses.
Things won’t be easy for Georgia in 2025 as the Bulldogs look to make it further than the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals. They lost to Notre Dame, 23-10, as the Fighting Irish made it all the way to the National Championship.
Regardless, Georgia has dates against Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, and Texas. These high-profile matchups will give Luckie plenty of opportunities to showcase his skills for NFL scouts.
If Luckie continues his strong play and builds chemistry with Stockton, he could solidify himself as a mid-round pick. The Jaguars would get excellent value at No. 93 for a player who has already proven he can produce at the highest level of college football.
What a stupid article. Total supposition to create click-bait. You sound like someone who blows too much money on lottery tickets.
