Khalil Herbert became the latest shocking trade of the NFL trade deadline. The Cincinnati Bengals have bolstered their roster as they hope to make a push toward the playoffs.
The running back did not take long after the news of his trade got out to pass a message to his fans.
Khalil Herbert Speaks Up After Getting Traded to the Bengals
The former Chicago Bears RB will add an extra option for Zac Taylor after his preferred RB Zach Moss suffered a neck injury. Moss is out of action for an indefinite period. During their last outing against the Las Vegas Raiders, backup RB Chase Brown performed brilliantly.
Brown had 27 carries for 120 yards, and now the Bengals have a complementary option to back him up as well. This season, Herbert played five games for the Bears and has eight carries for 16 yards and a touchdown in those.
After the trade, the 26-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) and updated the fans on his mindset. “Thank you God #WhoDey,” he tweeted.

The Bengals have historically not opted for midseason trades unless special circumstances arise.
The franchise has given up their seventh-round pick of the 2025 NFL Draft to attain the services of Herbert.
Herbert’s Role With the Bengals
With a record of 4-5, the Bengals are third in the AFC North and have an uphill battle to make the playoffs.
Currently situated at ninth, the Bengals still have an outside chance to make the playoffs, and Herbert will have a special part to play in that battle.
Herbert may not be the starter for the Bengals, but it’ll be curious what type of timeshare this RB committee will have. Once Herbert becomes familiar with the playbook, the split between Herbert and Brown will be intriguing. Head coach Taylor might be inclined to use him for a few plays as the Bengals take on their divisional foes in Week 10 prime time.
The Bengals have a chance to avenge their Week 5 41-38 loss against the Baltimore Ravens in Maryland. The Week 10 game is scheduled for Thursday with kickoff at 8:15 p.m. ET.
