Special edition NBA podcast
Our hosts Kai’Chien Chisholm and Eric Wiedeke were given the green light to record a special NBA podcast! During the podcast, they cover Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and much more!
Kawhi Leonard to LA…Clippers?
Kawhi Leonard has made his decision! After days of suspense, what everyone predicted came true. Kawhi has become the newest member of the Los Angeles Clippers. It’s what everyone predicted, just months late. During the year it was always Kawhi Leonard to the Clippers. In recent days it was predicted that he would be a Los Angeles Laker. It seemed all but decided that the Clippers were out of it and it was between the Lakers and the Raptors.
The thing that most people forgot was exactly what Cris Carter was reporting on FS1, Kawhi was picking everything out of trust. The Lakers and Raptors plans were revealed almost immediately when NBA moratorium was officially opened last Sunday at 6:00 pm EST. The Clippers didn’t have a peep come out. No leaked plans, no leaked meetings, absolutely nothing. They didn’t let a single peep get loose, and it seems like Kawhi loved it.
Paul George traded to the Clippers from OKC
Joining Kawhi Leonard is LA finest, Paul George. George wanted to be in LA two years ago when traded from Indiana to Oklahoma City. After one year with Russ, fans thought he was a goner before signing a brand new contract with OKC. Stays another year, balls out for a couple of months, gets injured, and has now been traded to the Clippers. Ultimately he got his wish, and he is where he wanted to be. Back home.
Paul George and Kawhi Leonard had talked days before Kawhi made his decision. From the outside looking in George was the reason the Clippers landed Kawhi. George requests to be traded to the Clippers, and Sam Presti gets a haul for the star player. Four unprotected picks, two protected picks, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Danilo Gallinari. What makes the situation even crazier is the report that OKC and Presti offered Russell Westbrook AND Paul George to the Toronto Raptors for Pascal Siakam and a haul of assets. Ultimately, Masai Ujiri balked at that idea, and thus, George is a Clipper.
So where does this leave Russell Westbrook? The Oklahoma City Thunder will need to trade him at this point. They offered him in a trade, and now that Westbrook knows that he was offered in the deal, he will not want to stay with the Thunder. His cap hit is a crazy hit and teams will be looking to see what they can get out of the All-Star point guard.
With a $47Mil player option in his final year at age 33 in the 2022-2023 season, it will be hard to trade him. The way Westbrook plays says his body will eventually break down. Add this in with the high cap number, and teams won’t give up a lot. Our very own Eric Wiedeke thinks the Wizards and Timberwolves could be options.
