Kansas City Chiefs News Today

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes would re-structure his contract, creating $21.6 million in cap space for the Chiefs this season. As of this writing, Kansas City has $15,322,361 in cap room, per Over The Cap. The Chiefs recently agreed to terms with tight end Irv Smith Jr., along with re-signing defensive tackle Chris Jones.

Mahomes initially agreed to a 10-year, $503 million extension on July 6, 2020. His contract was worth $477 million “in guarantee mechanisms,” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The recent Super Bowl MVP is now set to make $9.85 million in base salary, along with a signing bonus of $6,114,888, a roster bonus of $7.9 million, and a workout bonus of $1 million, per Spotrac. His total cap hit is now $37,008,269.

Las month, Mahomes delivered his third Super Bowl title since joining Kansas City out of Texas Tech in 2017 as a first-round pick and the 10th overall selection. The 28-year-old quarterback has compiled a litany of accolades, including three Super Bowl MVPs, two NFL MVPs, an NFL Offensive Player of the Year award, two first-team All-Pro selections, and six Pro Bowl nods.

Mahomes went 401-for-597 (67.2%) on passes for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, along with 75 carries for 389 yards on the ground in 2023.

Here’s more news on the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Kansas City Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed Hopes to Return Next Season

Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed spoke to the media on Tuesday in a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City. Kansas City placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on Sneed earlier in March, allowing Sneed to search for better deals and the Chiefs to match any contract offers.

The two-time Super Bowl champion made it known that he’d love to return to the team, per KSHB 41, Kansas City’s NBC affiliate station.

“Two is legendary, but three? You never get tired of getting rings,” Sneed said. “Hopefully, I’m with the Chiefs. Hopefully, I’m still here, and we can go back and repeat.”

Sneed, 27, has played four seasons with the Chiefs since being drafted out of Louisiana Tech with the 138th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. In four years, Sneed has 303 tackles (233 solo), 19 tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, 6.5 sacks, 40 pass deflections, and 10 interceptions returned for 105 yards.

“They had a great time and were super cool to the other attendees,” an eyewitness told ET. “They felt like they could relax and kick back because of the no cellphone and photo policy. They spent most of the night close together and by each other’s sides and looked happy and in love. They also spent time talking and hanging out with Miles and Keleigh [Teller].”
