There have been some unlikely heroes in fantasy football this year. For instance, no one saw the multi-TD game of De’Von Achane coming, and no one could have predicted the offensive powerhouse that has become the Houston Texans.
Conversely, heroes that fantasy football managers have come to rely on in years past have missed multiple games and have not been able to deliver. Justin Jefferson, D’Onta Foreman, and Taysom Hill tick all of these boxes.
What are the most up-to-date injury updates on these players heading into Week 14?
Latest News and Injury Updates Impacting Fantasy
Justin Jefferson, WR, Minnesota Vikings
Any fantasy manager that drafted Jefferson was ready to ride into the playoffs on the back of one of the most potent fantasy WRs we have seen in a long time. His first year in the league Jefferson finished as the WR6, and in 2021 he improved to WR4. Last season, he was WR1, finishing with 1,809 yards receiving and eight TDs. Similar results were expected in 2023.
The first four weeks of the season held great promise for a similar year to 2022; he was the WR7 and looking to improve. However, in Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs, he suffered a hamstring injury and was placed on injured reserve (IR). The four required weeks came and went, and managers were eagerly awaiting his return.
Jefferson made it clear that he did not care about fantasy managers and their desire to get him back on the field, perhaps sooner than he was ready. He posted on X in late November, “My health is wayyyy more important than you winning your fantasy games. It doesn’t matter how many times y’all flood my dms talking about me selling your team. I DONT CARE.” He then shut down his account.
On Nov. 28, the Vikings activated Jefferson from IR, anticipating him to play after their Week 13 bye. Today Jefferson was a full participant in practice for the first time since his injury. He looks to take the field this weekend against the Las Vegas Raiders. QB Joshua Dobbs will return under center.
Editor’s note: Jefferson was a full participant in practice again on Thursday.
D’Onta Foreman, RB, Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears backfield has been a complicated one this season, with Khalil Herbert starting the year as the RB1 and then going down to injury. Rookie RB Roschon Johnson closely followed, and the Bears were put in quite a pickle.
Enter Foreman. In classic Foreman fashion (remember last season in Carolina?), Foreman came in and took over the backfield, at least for a few weeks. He won fantasy managers weeks in Week 7 when he finished as the RB1, and outside of one bad finish against the Los Angeles Chargers, he was the RB26 or better in the weeks following.
In Week 11 Foreman injured his ankle against Detroit and was forced to sit out the Week 12 game against Minnesota. The bye week followed, giving him enough time to hopefully rehab the issue. He was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and looks to be a full go for Week 14 against Detroit. It should be Herbert and Foreman splitting duties on Sunday, with some Johnson mixed in for good measure.
Editor’s note: Foreman was a full participant in practice again on Thursday.
Taysom Hill, TE, New Orleans Saints
The Swiss Army Knife of fantasy players, Hill will either break your heart or win you a week. This season, he has finished in the top 10 five times, including in Week 8 when he was the TE1, but he has finished TE24 or worse five times. His worst finish was as TE50 in Week 1.
You never know what you are going to get with Hill, and it seems like he is currently dealing with two injuries. He did not practice on Wednesday due to issues with his foot and his left hand. It is unclear exactly when he sustained these injuries, but head coach Dennis Allen told the press that Hill will be monitored throughout the week.
If Hill is sidelined, normally TE Juwan Johnson would benefit with playing time and targets, but he too is dealing with an injury. He was limited in practice on Wednesday due to a quad injury.
Editor’s note: Hill was listed as a DNP in practice again on Thursday.
