With the way things were going, it seemed like an inevitability that Justin Herbert would bear the brunt of an offensive line that couldn’t hold it together. After the Rashawn Slater injury in the offseason, they also lost Joe Alt for the season, making it even more difficult to get their quarterback production.
That was visible in the game tape and the stat sheet, as Herbert was constantly under pressure or getting mauled with quarterback hits and sacks. Finally, facing the Las Vegas Raiders, the situation turned grim as the superstar quarterback suffered a massive injury.

What Happened to Justin Herbert?
Early in the game, the Chargers tried to continue their hot streak of scoring on the first drive. Taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, it appeared to be a comfortable victory against the bottom-feeders in the AFC West.
However, after a scary hit in the red zone, Herbert ultimately decided to exit the game and rush to the locker room, as a worrying scene developed for the Los Angeles faithful.
Soon after, Kris Rhim of ESPN confirmed on X, “Justin Herbert went to the locker room with trainers. He was looking at his left hand after that red zone hit earlier.”

Lance replaced Herbert, and the Chargers’ starting quarterback is officially questionable to return due to a hand injury.
Fantasy Impact of Herbert’s Injury
The speed with which Herbert jogged to the locker room suggests this is something he can get back on the field from quickly. But if he doesn’t, this would be an unmitigated disaster for the Chargers’ offense.
Los Angeles has five fantasy-relevant players. There’s a chance none of them will be viable if Lance has to finish this game. Expect the Chargers to employ a run-heavy game plan for as long as Herbert is sidelined.
