The New York Jets recorded their first win of the season in Week 8 with a 39-38 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. It ended a seven-game losing streak for the team and came with an incredible performance from Justin Fields, the bête noire starting quarterback. Fields completed 21-of-32 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown, while also converting two successful two-point attempts.
With the team returning from a bye week, the question is who will start at quarterback when the Jets face the Cleveland Browns in Week 10.
What Did Aaron Glenn Say About the New York Jets Quarterback Plans?
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn declined to reveal who will start at quarterback on Sunday.
“You know I’m not going to give you that answer,” Glenn said on Monday. “The thing is, you will find out soon who our starting quarterback will be, and Justin did a hell of a job against Cincinnati, but you know I’m going to keep that close to the vest.”
Glenn’s approach is consistent with his handling of the quarterback situation before the Cincinnati Bengals game. Fields was named the starter only after Tyrod Taylor, initially expected to start, was ruled out with a knee injury.

Taylor has returned to practice this week, leaving the possibility open for either quarterback to start.
“Jets HC Aaron Glenn remains mum on who will be his starting QB Sunday vs. the Browns. He did tell reporters that Tyrod Taylor (knee) will be practicing this week,” reported Eric Allen of the Jets on X.

Meanwhile, Fields’ season has included difficulties both on and off the field. He was benched at halftime during an earlier loss to the Carolina Panthers and has seen criticism from fans, media, and even Jets owner Woody Johnson, who cited Fields’ performance as a factor in the team’s winless start.
Fields Let Actions Do The Talking
After the Bengals game, Fields shared the emotional strain of the season.
“I’ve been praying like crazy just for a win,” Fields said, via CBS Sports. “I’m going to get pretty vulnerable right here. This week, I found myself in my closet crying on the ground, laying down. Not because of the hardships, not because of the troubles.”
He then said how his thought process helped him stick to resilience: “I felt like I was built to handle that and I was put in a place to handle this situation. But in that moment when I was talking to my best friend how hard it was and just not wavering faith-wise.”
Fields has a QB impact score of 69.7, ranking 29th this season among all quarterbacks in PFSN’s Quarterback Impact. While this might seem like a low score, it was much lower around week 4 of the season, when he had fallen to 52.
Glenn, while not disclosing specific conversations with Fields, praised the quarterback for how he handled the situation: “Just his personality, just in general, speaks volumes when he went through that situation and especially when he talked to you guys. I refuse to tell you guys exactly what we’ve talked about, and I will always keep that between me and the player.”
The Jets will face the Cleveland Browns at home on Sunday.
