The Indianapolis Colts defeated the 3-0 Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, but several key players got hurt in the process. In addition to quarterback Anthony Richardson suffering a hip pointer, star running back Jonathan Taylor left the game with an injury. What is Taylor’s status, and is he in danger of missing some time?

The Latest on Jonathan Taylor’s Injury

Although Richardson may not sit out any games due to his injury, the same can’t be said for Taylor, who suffered a high ankle sprain on Sunday.

With 8:52 remaining in the fourth quarter, Taylor exited the game with an ankle injury. After getting examined and taped along the sideline, Taylor’s day was over after rushing 21 times for 88 yards and a touchdown while adding three catches for 20 yards.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, it is a “pretty mild version,” but this type of injury typically requires a four-to-six-week recovery period.

Even if Taylor beats that timeframe, he’ll likely be sidelined for at least a couple of games, although it’s promising that a source told Rapoport that the Colts RB is “OK.”

Ankle injuries are especially concerning for Taylor, who followed his 2021 All-Pro campaign by missing most of the 2022 season with a sprained ankle.

After the game, Taylor told ESPN’s Stephen Holder, “I’m feeling pretty good. We came out with the win, so I’m excited to attack this week because this is going to be another tough one.”

Asked if he felt confident about the ankle, Taylor said, “Yes, 1000 percent.”

After being held to just 48 rushing yards in Week 1, Taylor had eclipsed 100 yards on the ground in each of the past two weeks. He scored two touchdowns in the Colts’ Week 3 win against the Chicago Bears.

Trey Sermon is the Colts’ RB2 and will be in line for a significant workload, assuming Taylor can’t play in Week 5. Indy will face the 0-4 Jacksonville Jaguars, who rank ninth worst in expected points added (EPA) per play against the run.

Third-stringer Tyler Goodson is also available as a potential receiving option.
