Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are 7-2 heading into Week 10. Their successful start to the season has surprised people as many predicted them to regress after losing key players like Stefon Diggs, Micah Hyde, and Jordan Poyer.
Allen has played quite well so far and has limited his turnovers, throwing just two interceptions in the first nine games of the season.
However, Cleveland Browns legendary left tackle Joe Thomas has not been impressed by the Bills this NFL season.
Joe Thomas Does Not Believe in Josh Allen’s Bills
In a conversation on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Thomas mentioned that Buffalo has flaws and does not have confidence to get past the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I don’t really believe in the Bills,” Thomas said. “They’re a team that seems flawed because I don’t think they fully believe in themselves as contenders to beat the Chiefs. So, I would actually say the [Pittsburgh Steelers] are probably a team that could knock off the Chiefs.”
It’s true that no matter how good the Bills look in the regular soon there is a mental hurdle which they have to overcome against the Chiefs. Allen has lost three times to the Chiefs in the postseason, and it looks like last season was their best opportunity to defeat them as the game was in Buffalo.
Kansas City is likely to finish as the first seed in the AFC, and it will be very hard to beat them at Arrowhead in the playoffs.
Thomas mentioned that the Steelers have a chance to take down the Chiefs. But for that to be possible, Russell Wilson needs to play better than Patrick Mahomes, as Kansas City’s defense can go toe to toe with Pittsburgh’s defense.
The chances of Wilson outplaying Mahomes in a playoff game at Arrowhead are quite low. Based on what we have seen this year, Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens pose the biggest threat to the Chiefs. However, the Steelers can make the AFC Championship Game as they have enough talent and experience to take down the Ravens.
Bills Can Prove Their Critics Wrong in the Upcoming Weeks
The Bills do not have enough firepower this year to make noise in the playoffs. Out of their seven wins this season, only one has come against teams with a winning record (Arizona Cardinals 5-4).
They were blown out 35-10 by the Ravens and also lost 23-20 to the Houston Texans earlier this season. So far, Allen and Buffalo have failed to win big games but they have an opportunity to change that narrative.
Out of their remaining fixtures, these are the ones that matter the most:
- Week 11: vs. Chiefs
- Week 13: vs. San Francisco 49ers
- Week 14: at Los Angeles Rams
- Week 15: at Detroit Lions
These games will be a litmus test for Buffalo’s expectations this season as so far they have taken advantage of a favorable schedule.
If the Bills go 3-1 or even 2-2 in these four games, more people will begin to respect them. Allen currently has the second best odds to win the first MVP award of his career, and results from Week 11-15 will ultimately make or break his case.
