The New York Jets hoped to go through a complete makeover and establish a new culture after severing ties with Aaron Rodgers. Their biggest change was bringing in former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to build an identity based on the defense. However, through the first six weeks, the season hasn’t gone remotely according to plan, with the team not impressing on either side of the football.
Under offseason signing Justin Fields, the offense has been among the worst units in the league, whereas the defense did not have a single turnover through the first five games. Currently, the only winless team in the NFL, one analyst believes the Glenn experiment isn’t working in New York, and instead wants them to go after a former Super Bowl champion head coach who is currently a free agent.
Could the New York Jets Have a Better Choice Than Aaron Glenn?
Following his success in Detroit, Glenn’s hiring was met with wide-scale approval. With a serious mindset and a focus on establishing a team culture, it seemed like the right direction for a woeful franchise.
However, his success with the Lions, both on the field and in setting up a culture, hasn’t translated to the Jets. They rank 27th on PFSN’s Defense Impact, and the offense doesn’t set them up for success either.
As a result, Colin Cowherd of The Herd on FS1 believed that the franchise’s path to salvage its future had to be meticulous. He detailed that plan in four key steps: “Number one, I would keep Aaron Glenn for the rest of the season.”
He explained it to ensure a clean coaching search and moved on to his second point. “Do not trade away any of your best players. Stay out of the trade deadline stuff.” Then came his biggest change, which he wanted to see in the offseason.
“Hire an offensive coach at the end of the year after letting Aaron go.” For the spot, he had a clear idea of who he wanted New York to go after. “Go get Mike McCarthy.” Finally, the last step was relatively simple.

“Then they just draft the best college quarterback available and let it bake for a few years.” However, his plan had one key caveat. “You may not turn it around overnight. It’s not that complicated. Hard to win Super Bowls, not hard to be competent.”
The rationale from Cowherd seems perfect for the team with the longest playoff drought in the NFL by a wide margin. McCarthy is a proven winner with 17 years of experience as head coach, having 169 regular-season and 16 playoff victories to his credit.
After a 13-year run with the Green Bay Packers, including winning Super Bowl 45 with Aaron Rodgers, McCarthy spent five years with the Cowboys from 2020 onwards. Failing to reach a contract extension with owner and general manager Jerry Jones led to McCarthy’s dismissal.
However, he remains a brilliant mind who could help New York become an instantly competent organization. However, for a Jets fan base and team that has been trying and hoping for a big swing, it might be a pill too bitter to swallow.

So give Mike time to fix it but glenn gets no time? Stupid take
