The NFL offseason is coming to an end, and most teams have already set their rosters for the preseason. Position battles will soon be underway as they work toward finalizing the 53-man roster for the season. Still, that doesn’t stop teams from making targeted free agent signings or exploring potential trades.
Each year, some teams emerge as sellers while others become buyers as the trade deadline approaches, with this season’s deadline set for November 5. The New York Jets are seen as a potential destination for a receiver with 32 career touchdowns who’s coming off the second-best season of his career.
New York Jets Predicted To Trade for Broncos’ Courtland Sutton Mid-Season
The Jets enter the season with several changes following a disastrous 2024 campaign. Justin Fields has taken over as the team’s quarterback, and Aaron Glenn was hired as the head coach tasked with establishing a new culture, which could start by giving Fields more weapons to work with.
New York brought in Davante Adams midway through last season to pair with Garrett Wilson and offer more familiarity for Aaron Rodgers. Still, the team decided to release him this offseason. With a need for a new receiver on the roster, one option could be knocking on the Denver Broncos’ door to check on Courtland Sutton’s availability.
“The club needs to find a running mate for top wideout Garrett Wilson after the failed Davante Adams experiment lasted just 11 games. With Josh Reynolds and Allen Lazard currently penciled in as the potential starters alongside Wilson, Gang Green would be wise to make a run at Sutton,” Alex Kay wrote in a Bleacher Report article.

From the Broncos’ perspective, a trade would only make sense if the team fails to replicate its 2024 success. With Bo Nix on a rookie contract and the window the team opened last season, surrounding the quarterback with weapons is crucial. In a worst-case scenario, Sutton could become a trade piece as the franchise looks to get younger heading into next year.
“Sutton has yet to earn an extension despite posting the best statistical performance of his career last season. The seven-year veteran appeared in all 17 games and caught 81 of his 135 targets for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns. It was just the second 1,000-yard campaign of his career and the first since a Pro Bowl sophomore season back in 2019,” Kay wrote about Sutton’s career.
In 2019, Sutton hit his peak, but after a serious injury that sidelined him for nearly all of the 2020 season, it took time for him to reclaim a leading role. With the Broncos trending younger, players like Devaughn Vele and Troy Franklin could earn more opportunities, and Sutton could be traded to a team needing a reliable veteran presence.
