The New York Jets released Aaron Rodgers before free agency this spring. Rodgers had a rather uneventful two-year stint in New York after a trade from the Green Bay Packers. In his place is free agent signing Justin Fields.
Fields is the likely starter for the Jets in 2025. As a result, it’s up to the new front office to give him the best chance to win. In PFSN’s latest NFL Mock Draft, they add an intriguing piece to the offense while making more moves for the future.

Jets Add Elite Tight End in 2025 NFL Mock Draft
The Jets currently own the seventh pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. This gives them a number of options to explore when the draft rolls around. And it puts them in position to potentially add an elite prospect.
New York could address a number of positions. Quarterback isn’t off the table despite the Fields signing this spring. A wide receiver makes sense, too. Garrett Wilson is a superstar, but he can’t do this alone.
Offensive line could also be the move. Most of New York’s offensive line is locked in. And they are all on the younger side. However, right tackle remains a spot that could become an issue during the 2025 season.
However, the Jets address none of these positions in PFSN’s latest mock. In fact, they don’t even pick with the seventh overall pick. They trade this selection to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for picks 21, 83, and a 2026 first-rounder. With the 21st pick, the Jets select Michigan tight end Colston Loveland.
“Moving from No. 7 to No. 21 is a steep jump, but with an extra third-round pick and a future first-rounder added to the mix, the New York Jets could be smart to stockpile on picks to retool their roster post-Aaron Rodgers. Though overshadowed by [Tyler] Warren, Colston Loveland is a top-tier talent. He’s a smooth athlete who stretches the field and thrives on seam routes. His pass-catching ability makes him a strong first-round pick,” PFSN contributor Jacob Infante wrote of the move.
Trading down could certainly be smart for the Jets. This is a team that has some work to do in building its roster. They certainly have pieces, but more is needed. Adding extra draft picks, including a first-round pick for next season, is a smart move.
Picking Loveland certainly makes sense, as well. The Michigan product is one of the best tight ends in the class, alongside Penn State’s Tyler Warren. He certainly has the potential to be a star in the passing game.
This pick also addresses a significant need for the Jets. Tyler Conklin signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency this spring. New York brought in former Charger Stone Smartt, but he hasn’t shown enough to deter a move for another tight end this offseason.
Loveland could quickly become one of the top pass-catching options on this roster. He may not have a historic year like Brock Bowers did in 2024, but he could definitely make an instant impact on a team that certainly needs it.
