The New York Jets made headlines this offseason by committing $40 million to former first-round quarterback Justin Fields — a move they hope will stabilize the position after years of uncertainty. Fields has yet to fully establish himself as a starting-caliber NFL quarterback after being selected No. 11 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, but New York might represent his best shot yet.
However, to get the most out of their new signal-caller, the Jets might still need one more piece — and one analyst thinks it could be a three-time Pro Bowl tight end.
Jets Predicted To Trade For All-Pro Tight End Despite Drafting Mason Taylor Early in 2025 NFL Draft
The Jets currently have four tight ends on the roster: Jeremy Ruckert, Stone Smartt, Zack Kuntz, and rookie Mason Taylor, who was selected 42nd overall. None of those options has ever caught more than 20 passes in an NFL season. Tyler Conklin, the team’s primary starter in 2024, hauled in 51 receptions but departed in free agency to the Los Angeles Chargers.
As a result, NFL.com’s Brooke Cersosimo believes the Jets will be looking for options at the moment and could trade for the Baltimore Ravens’ TE Mark Andrews.
“There has been some speculation this offseason about the Ravens moving their longtime tight end,” Cersosimo wrote. “He’s been a very reliable player (minus that drop in the Divisional Round loss), but this is a business after all.
“Andrews is a free agent in 2026, and with Baltimore needing to allocate money elsewhere (SEE: renegotiating Lamar Jackson’s contract), the team could save $11 million against the cap and gain future draft capital by trading him. In come the Jets, who are in the middle of a rebuild and need more pieces to help Justin Fields jump-start the offense. New York did draft Mason Taylor in the second round, but bringing in Andrews for a year to aid this unit and mentor the rookie makes sense.”
Andrews has been among the best tight ends in the NFL since the Ravens selected him in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. While he has already set the franchise record for most career touchdowns – along with several other records – he became the target of the fanbase during Baltimore’s latest postseason run when he failed to make a game-tying 2-point conversion.
The Ravens already have Isaiah Likely on the roster as a potential replacement, and with Lamar Jackson’s contract negotiations starting, it won’t be a surprise if the team decides to save the $11 million in cap space and recoup some draft capital.

Even though Andrews struggled in the playoffs, his production during the regular season points to better days ahead. In 2024, he improved in almost every major receiving category: targets, receptions, yards per reception, yards per target, receiving yards, and touchdowns. Those numbers are a big reason why the Jets would be interested in acquiring him for at least a year.
