The Seattle Seahawks made significant changes to their offense during the 2025 offseason. Most notably, they hired new coordinators and signed quarterback Sam Darnold to be their quarterback for the foreseeable future. The moves makes sense given the 2024 season showed a wide gulf between the two sides of the ball.
According to PFSN’s Offense+ metric, the Seahawks ranked 20th in the league. They had some bright spots like Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but clearly lacked consistency. The defense, on the other hand, ranked sixth overall according to PFSN’s Defense+ metric.
While they took a huge step forward, they still looked to improve during the offseason — and did so with a former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowler, DeMarcus Lawrence, who left the Lone Star State with some sharp remarks.

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Provides Clarity on His Feelings About DeMarcus Lawrence’s Remarks
The Cowboys drafted Lawrence in the second round in 2014. During his 11 years in Dallas, he went to four Pro Bowls. Despite the success, he didn’t part on the best of terms.
Lawrence signed with the Seahawks in free agency, bolstering their already solid defense. When asked why he would leave the team he’d called home, Lawrence said, “Dallas is my home… But I know for sure I’m not gonna win a Super Bowl there.”
Those comments didn’t sit well with Dallas fans or with many of his former teammates, but they apparently didn’t bother Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. According to a post on X by Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports, his comments don’t change anything.
“When asked about this, Jerry Jones was effusive in praise for DeMarcus Lawrence and the leadership he gave [the] Cowboys. Said these comments have ‘zero’ influence on his desire to put DeMarcus in [the] Cowboys Ring of Honor,” Epstein wrote on X.

This hasn’t been Lawrence’s only beef with his former team. There were also some locker room issues with ex-teammates, like Micah Parsons. After leaving for Seattle, Lawrence questioned Parsons’ commitment to the team. Since then, the two have gone back and forth on social media.
Parsons has responded to Lawrence’s comments, saying his on-field performance speaks for itself. In 2024, he led the Cowboys defense with 12 sacks and 12 tackles for loss — all in just 13 games, the fewest of his career.
While Jones has been known to ruffle feathers in the past with controversial comments, he is choosing the high road this time.
Lawrence might have burned some bridges on his way out of town, but Jones would be remiss not to recognize his many contributions to Dallas’ defense over the past decade. In 141 games, he racked up 450 total tackles, 97 tackles for loss, 126 quarterback hits, 61.5 sacks, and 21 forced fumbles.
While the bad blood between Lawrence and Parsons might not be resolved anytime soon, everyone will likely see who is the wiser on the field this season. Lawrence is heading to Seattle with a chip on his shoulder that could work in their favor as he looks to make Dallas regret letting him go.
