Should You Start Jerome Ford or Kareem Hunt in Fantasy Football in Week 13?

Which of the Cleveland Browns RBs -- Jerome Ford or Kareem Hunt -- should you have in your fantasy lineup in Week 13 of the NFL season?

The Cleveland Browns will be relying on a former rival to help them win a big game this week, as Joe Flacco will be the starter against the Los Angeles Rams. To have a chance to get the win, the Browns are going to need to get a good game from the rushing attack.

Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt both can be good fantasy running backs, but which one should be in your lineup? We’ll give you the fantasy football outlook for each player.

Should You Start Jerome Ford or Kareem Hunt This Week?

In the Pro Football Network Start/Sit Optimizer, our Consensus Rankings say that Hunt is the player to start. His projected 9.2 points include 29 rushing yards and three receptions for 18 receiving yards. That projected stat line outperforms, but just barely, Ford’s consensus projection of 8.4 points.

I am tempted to go with Hunt, but the fact he has been limited this week (DNP-LP-FP) has me concerned enough that I am going to go with Ford. They are so close in projected points, so give me the healthier running back.

Fantasy Outlook for Ford This Week

It has been hard to get a read on Ford, as he has been very good at times but also has had weeks where he doesn’t get the ball a lot. He has 44, 107, 31, and 65 rushing yards in his last four games. Even though he had only 65 yards last week against the Denver Broncos, he did average 7.2 yards per carry.

In three of the last four games, Ford has been on the field for at least 60% of the snaps. That is a good sign for Ford, and with Hunt’s injury issue, it is hard to see that changing at all this week.

The revolving door at the quarterback position this season for the Browns has been unbelievable, and despite that, the team is legitimately in the playoff and AFC North race.

The Rams’ defense has had its struggles against the run, so this is another opportunity for Ford to have a big game. If Ford can get in the endzone or catch a few passes, he may be in store for a big fantasy day.

Fantasy Outlook for Hunt This Week

Injuries have been an issue for Hunt all year, and in the game last week, he had only seven carries because of a groin injury. He missed Wednesday’s practice this week but was back on Thursday. That was in a limited role though, and while it looks like Hunt will be available for Sunday, it’s unlikely he’ll be 100%.

Where Hunt has had a lot of value this year is the fact he has scored six rushing touchdowns in only nine games. While that is a positive, he hasn’t been on the field for 50% of the Browns’ offensive snaps in any game this season. If he isn’t scoring a touchdown, he just doesn’t get the touches or produce at a high enough clip to be in fantasy lineups over Ford.
