Jason Kelce went on a fiery rant about statistics in the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast. His take on numbers and NFL records ignited fans on the internet over his satirical takedown of people who deep dive into numbers rather than looking at one’s game and overall significance in a team setting.

What Did Jason Kelce Say About Stats?

Jason’s viral take was in response to a comment made by Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, who said that “stats are for losers” while defending his tight end Kyle Pitts. Pitts didn’t record any receptions in the Falcons’ Week 4 game, as the Falcons won a close game against the New Orleans Saints.

The former Philadelphia Eagles center humorously declared, “This is my viewpoint on stats: Stats are numbers. What I care about is the football. Where does it go? Does it go in the end zone? Do we get points? Points are also numbers, but points determine games and wins and losses. Stats are numbers, numbers are nerds, nerds are losers, therefore stats are losers.”

Kelce’s words were met by fans who took his words in the literal sense, forcing him to clarify online.

“The number of people taking this at face value is concerning,” Kelce tweeted. “Do these people not [know] satirical absurdism when they see it?”

Jason’s brother and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce also mentioned the subject, supporting Morris’ stance. “If you’re putting the ball in the end zone, you’re going to get stats,” said junior Kelce.

The 7x Pro Bowl winner’s playful attack didn’t stop there, as he continued, “Numbers are for the analytics people. And the pencil-pushers. And the zit faces. And the four-eyes.”

“It is what it is,” Travis quipped, clearly amused by his brother’s rant.

Jason recently stepped up to defend his younger brother: “It’s gonna go your way, especially if you keep being the guy you’ve always been. It’s frustrating for me to have to watch and listen to, but I can’t wait for it to turn,” Jason told Travis in the Sept. 25 episode. [11:20]

Travis, who has been vocal about his struggles, also acknowledged his shortcomings while pointing at his dropped pass against the Falcons in Week 3. He admitted, “We’re not playing our best football. Everybody can clean up.”
