The second season of “Quarterback,” produced by Omaha Productions, premieres on Netflix on Tuesday, July 8. This season spotlights Joe Burrow, Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins, offering an inside look at their 2024 NFL campaigns. The series will capture their biggest moments and the challenges each quarterback faced throughout the year.
Netflix released a trailer of just over two minutes to promote the series, and at one point, it shows a lighthearted interaction between Goff and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, one of the many moments the players discuss in the show.
Jared Goff Reacts To a Tom Brady Comment About the Detroit Lions Offense in 2024
For years, the Detroit Lions were seen as an undesirable destination for many NFL players, a result of the franchise’s dysfunctional history. Former player Rob Gronkowski even revealed that he once vetoed a trade to the Lions, threatening to retire because he didn’t want to play for the team.
When Goff arrived in Detroit, he was viewed as a castoff in the NFL, a perception that only got worse when his replacement on the Los Angeles Rams, and former Lions quarterback, Matthew Stafford won a Super Bowl with his new team in his very first year. But Goff stayed the course and became part of one of the biggest turnarounds in Detroit, now seen as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
In the trailer for Season 2 of “Quarterback,” Brady praises the Lions’ offense, saying, “I’d love to be the quarterback of this offense. It’s just so much fun.” Goff responds, “Yeah, too bad, Tom. You’re retired,” highlighting his appreciation for offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s system.

The lighthearted and joking interaction also reflects Goff’s own journey in Detroit, which is expected to be featured in the series, as hinted at in later moments of the trailer. A team now viewed as a desirable destination for quarterbacks and receivers was once considered a place where talent went to waste, and Goff was there through the entire transformation.
In his first year with the Lions, while Stafford was winning a Super Bowl with the Rams, Detroit ended the season with a dismal 3-13-1 record. But since then, the team’s record has improved every year: 9-8 in 2022, 12-5 in 2023 with a trip to the NFC Championship and 15-2 last season, securing the NFC’s No. 1 seed.
Goff’s mindset of proving himself in the NFL mirrored the one instilled by head coach Dan Campbell, who built a physical, bold, and creative playing style that, while it hasn’t yet delivered a Super Bowl, has led to clear progress each year.
The series will also follow the 2024 seasons of Burrow, as he fought to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to the playoffs in a year full of challenges, and Cousins, who joined a new team while dealing with the adjustment and recovery from his Achilles injury. This is the second season of the “Quarterback” series and the third of its kind, following 2024’s edition focused on receivers.
