The 2025 NFL Draft hasn’t exactly been stacked with quarterbacks. In 2024, six QBs went in the first round. This year? Only two are widely projected to go early at Lambeau Field. But as draft day creeps closer, a few other names are starting to climb into the conversation.
One of the biggest risers is Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. A true dual-threat quarterback, Milroe’s game draws natural comparisons to another former Alabama standout — Jalen Hurts, who also happens to be his mentor.
The Jalen Hurts-Jalen Milroe Equation
Hurts had a solid career at Alabama, where he spent the first three years of his collegiate career before transferring to Oklahoma. However, his dual-threat style has become a recipe for success, especially as he sits as the reigning Super Bowl MVP.
Milroe is a player of a similar mold, both in style and production, and he’s made it a point to develop a rapport with Hurts. Speaking on NFL Live, he detailed how that relationship has grown over the years.
“What I take from him is seeing how right looks like. Throughout the whole period of time, with him keeping his head down, continues to grind, keep refining his skillset, and just keep elevating. To me, that’s important in itself, whether it’s on the field and off the field, you look at the impact he had off the field — people misinterpret that as well,” Milroe shared.
It’s clear to see that Milroe is very passionate and defensive about the success Hurts has had in the league. A former 53rd overall pick who went in the second round, he has certainly shattered the mold of expectations.
Milroe might have to track a similar journey for himself to find the success he’s looking for. On the latest mock draft from PFSN, he was predicted to go 65th overall to the New York Giants. But there is a trajectory from that spot as well.

“As a player that aspires to go to the NFL, it’s always unique that each starting quarterback in the league does something right. They have a certain skill set and a certain presence about them that makes them a starting quarterback. And he’s definitely one of them.”
Finding success as a quarterback in the NFL is certainly a tough endeavor, doubly so if drafted in the later rounds. But Milroe has an archetype and a clear path to follow to find the success he wants in the league.
