Prior to his junior season, he transferred to Alabama, where he rushed for 926 yards and seven touchdowns while also catching 44 passes for 444 yards and three more touchdowns.
Gibbs was taken by the Lions with the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He had 945 yards and 10 touchdowns on 182 attempts as a rookie. He also caught 52 passes for 316 yards and one more touchdown.
