Jack Sawyer NFL Draft Projections: 3 Best Landing Spots For the Ohio State EDGE On Day 3

Jack Sawyer is one of the most productive edge rushers in the 2025 NFL Draft. He led the Ohio State Buckeyes to the national championship. One would think this would help his draft stock, but Sawyer has yet to hear his name called heading into Day 3 of the draft. While he has slid further than expected, there are plenty of teams in dire need of a pass rusher, so he could be off the board early on Day 3.

Top 3 Landing Spots For Jack Sawyer

As far as edge rusher evaluations go in the 2025 NFL Draft, there aren’t too many as safe as Sawyer. He posted nine sacks, 59 total tackles, seven pass deflections, and three forced fumbles in 2024. He also recovered three fumbles, returning two of them for touchdowns. Earlier in 2023, he recorded 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for a loss.

Granted, no prospects are a sure-thing to be productive once they jump from the collegiate level to the NFL. That said, Sawyer has the technical know-how, football instincts, physicality, and motor needed to project as a quality starting edge rusher in the league.

There are players in this draft class with higher athletic ceilings than Sawyer, which likely prevented him from getting picked earlier. Sawyer has a high floor and could be an immediate contributor for a team, but teams often swing for the fences and look for high-upside prospects in the draft, so perhaps that is why Sawyer is falling. Also, his speed and bend could limit him a bit in the pros, as it did at times in college.

However, given his level of production at a Big Ten school and his refined skillset, he will likely be off the board early on Day 3. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders could be among the teams interested in Sawyer.

    Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to add a pass rusher at some point in the draft. Many mock drafts had them picking an EDGE on Day 1 or 2 of the draft, but with the way the board fell, the Bucs opted to go with Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka, Notre Dame CB Benjamin Morrison, and Kansas State CB Jacob Parrish instead.

The Bucs value strong leaders and high-character players, so perhaps they will end Sawyer’s slide on Day 3. Tampa Bay’s next pick is No. 121 overall.

    Philadelphia Eagles

Adding Sawyer makes a lot of sense for the Phildelphia Eagles after the defending Super Bowl champions lost Josh Sweat in free agency.

The Eagles are picking No. 111 overall in the fourth round, and if Sawyer, who has 23 sacks in his college career, is available by then, he will be a great value pick.

Howie Roseman loves drafting players who led their college team to a national championship, so Sawyer seems like a perfect fit.

    Washington Commanders

With newcomers Jayden Daniels and Dan Quinn, the Washington Commanders exceeded expectations in 2024. While they fell just short of the Super Bowl, a few more smart moves could push them over the top.

They have invested their first and second-round picks on an offensive tackle and a cornerback, respectively, and could use their third on Sawyer.

He is a high-motor player who maximizes his physical attributes by playing to the whistle consistently, and he may be a perfect fit for Quinn’s defense.
