Is Teddy Bridgewater playing today vs. the Chiefs? Latest injury update on Broncos QB

As Teddy Bridgewater continues to deal with an injury, will he play in Week 18 and be available for fantasy football lineups?

Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered an injury in Week 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals. He hasn’t played in a game since, with Drew Lock taking over the starting quarterback duties. Will Bridgewater start against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18, and what can fantasy football managers expect from this situation?

Teddy Bridgewater’s 2021 production

Bridgewater enjoyed a solid season through 14 games for Denver. He posted 3,052 yards with 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions on 426 pass attempts. He added 106 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground as well.

Bridgewater isn’t an overly risky option, but he flashed boom-or-bust potential at times. He threw for 334 yards with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6.

Prior to his injury, Bridgewater won two of his last three games. He beat the Los Angeles Chargers and Detroit Lions while losing to the Kansas City Chiefs between those victories.

Although Bridgewater isn’t the type of quarterback that will consistently go win games, he’s an outstanding game manager, and he had the Broncos in position for the playoffs prior to his injury.

Will Bridgewater play vs. the Chiefs in Week 18?

Bridgewater suffered a concussion against Cincinnati in Week 15, and he hasn’t been able to clear the NFL’s protocol since. He was placed on the injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his season.

Ultimately, Lock will draw another start, as Bridgewater’s season is over.

How will Bridgewater’s absence affect the Broncos’ offense?

With Bridgewater out, Lock will take over the offense for the third consecutive week. Teddy B isn’t an elite quarterback by any means, but he adds more upside to the offense than Lock.

In three starts this season, Lock’s offense is averaging only 11 points per game. They’re 0-3 with losses to the Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Chargers.

Lock wasn’t able to flash in any of those outings either, as he’s averaging 170.3 yards and 0.7 touchdowns on 22.7 pass attempts per game. The young quarterback did have his best outing of the season last week, recording 245 yards and 1 touchdown on 25 pass attempts.

Are fantasy points available vs. Kansas City?

With Bridgewater already ruled out, Lock gets an elite matchup against Kansas City. They’re allowing 20.2 fantasy points per game, which ranks second-worst in the NFL behind only the Washington Football Team.

Oddly enough, Kansas City has featured something of a reasonable defense against running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends, as they’ve only truly struggled against quarterbacks in 2021.

The Chiefs are allowing 256.3 passing yards per game and 7.1 adjusted yards per attempt this season. They’ve also given up 27 passing touchdowns with a 4.6% passing touchdown rate through 16 games.

It’s important to note that Lock isn’t a great fantasy quarterback, and Denver could continue to rely heavily on their run game. With that said, the young gunslinger has flashed earlier in his career, and Kansas City could get out to an early lead in this game.

Lock is a boom-or-bust quarterback with low-end QB1 upside. He comes with significantly more risk than upside, though.
