Is Dontayvion Wicks Playing Today? Latest Injury Updates, Fantasy Analysis, and More (December 24, 2023)

Will the Green Bay Packers have all their WRs available to play in Week 16? Will Dontayvion Wicks play this week vs. the Panthers?

There were many doubts regarding the Green Bay Packers heading into the 2023 season. The QB situation was one of the biggest ones — would Jordan Love be the guy to take the Packers into their next era? And if he is, who will he be throwing the ball to?

Love has proven himself, at least enough to look forward with promise moving forward in Green Bay, and he has been surrounded by several young, talented WRs. One of those who has been starting to make a name for himself because of the injuries in the WR room is Dontayvion Wicks.

However, Wicks is dealing with injury issues and might not be available this week. What’s the latest fantasy football managers should know?

Is Dontayvion Wicks Going To Play Week 16?

Editor’s note: Per Adam Schefter, Wicks is expected to suit up for the Packers in Week 16.

Wicks has been at the bottom of the depth chart for the majority of the season for Green Bay, so his numbers have not been incredible. He has almost 500 yards receiving and one TD. But he does have two games this year where he has finished as the WR25, one of those being in Week 15 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Wicks is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Panthers due to an ankle issue. Wicks suffered the injury in Week 14 when the Packers battled the New York Giants. He exited the game in the fourth quarter of the game and did not return.

After the game, he commented on his injury, suggesting that he believed it could be a high ankle sprain, potentially causing him to miss multiple games.

Thankfully, the injury did not hinder Wicks as much as he thought it might have. He did play in Week 15 against the Bucs and had 97 receiving yards. Wicks is WR51 in PFN’s Consensus Rankings this week.

Potential Fantasy Options If Dontayvion Wicks Is Out Include Romeo Doubs and Tucker Kraft

Even with a questionable tag, it looks like Wicks is trending to play for Green Bay. However, if he cannot go, the Packers might have to piece together a starting WR lineup with the amount of injuries they are dealing with. Romeo Doubs is the best option to pivot to instead of Wicks — he seems to be the only wholly healthy WR on the roster.

There are other options, but they are battling injuries worse than Wicks. Christian Watson continues to deal with his hamstring injury and has been made doubtful for this week.

In addition, Jayden Reed has been a great WR option this year, but he is dealing with a toe injury. Wicks seems more likely to play this week than Reed. Reed missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, whereas Wicks was limited in practice all week.

Beyond the WR, TE Tucker Kraft might be the best option for a Wicks pivot. Kraft had 57 yards receiving in Week 15 and caught one TD. He had at least 30 yards receiving in four out of the past five games and two red-zone targets in three out of the last four games.
