Is Daniel Jones playing tonight vs. New England?

Daniel Jones has yet to play in the preseason, but is he playing in the Giants' preseason finale against the New England Patriots?

Is Daniel Jones playing in the New York Giants‘ preseason finale against the New England Patriots? The bigger question might be to ask why we have not seen him play in the preseason. The third-year quarterback needs a big season to avoid any opportunity for a hot, young QB to be drafted in his place for the 2022 NFL season.

Is Daniel Jones playing tonight?

Yes, Jones is playing against the Patriots in the second-to-last game of the NFL preseason. He might not necessarily need it, but seeing him in game action and not turn the ball over on a pass attempt or when hit would be soothing for Giants fans.

Since joining the league in 2019, Jones leads the NFL in overall turnovers. In 27 games, he’s responsible for 39 total turnovers. The interceptions are part of the game. His interception percentage dropped a hair in 2020 but could still use some improvement.

His 17 lost fumbles are the much bigger issue — 6 more lost fumbles than anybody else in that time period. Jameis Winston comes to mind when one thinks of Jones. Even though Winston flashed talent worthy of his top-pick status, the turnovers cost more. It’s why the Buccaneers rightfully moved on. (And why it might hurt them in the future, as he moved on to New Orleans.)

We need to see some offensive innovation

The issue with Jones and the Giants’ offense is two-fold. Jones’ turnovers are debilitating, and their offensive coordinator is actively putting the team at a disadvantage because he’s behind the times.

This offense needs to show it has the juice. The Giants have new receivers that provide far more natural talent than their group last season. Unfortunately, Jones could be tied to Garrett, and in turn, might go down with the ship.

If this passing attack is close to the fifth-worst efficiency ranking they produced last season, it might mean the end for Jones in New York, and it should mean the end for Garrett.
