Is Alvin Kamara playing today against the Eagles?

Is Alvin Kamara playing today against the Philadelphia Eagles, and if he is absent, who should fantasy managers turn to in his place?

Following his absence last week, is New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara playing today against the Philadelphia Eagles, or will he be out again in Week 11 due to injury? Who could see an expanded role if Kamara is absent, and what should fantasy football managers do?

Is Alvin Kamara playing today vs. the Eagles?

When Kamara was a limited participant with his knee injury on Wednesday, there was hope he would be available and playing today. However, Kamara was a non-participant in practice both Thursday and Friday before being ruled out ahead of the weekend.

This is now two weeks in a row that Kamara has been absent, and the setback he suffered is a concern. With the Saints’ season seemingly slipping from their grasp after two straight losses, they need their lead back on the field. In Weeks 12 and 13, the Saints face the Bills and Cowboys. Those are two games they really need Kamara healthy for.

Mark Ingram should see the bulk of touches in Week 11

The absence of Kamara means that Mark Ingram is set to carry the workload for New Orleans. He had 14 carries and 7 targets in Week 10, which he turned into 108 yards and a touchdown. The expectation was that Ty Montgomery might support Ingram, but he also endured an injury and is out this week.

The Saints have activated Tony Jones from the injured reserve, and he might play the supporting role. Jones had 11 carries in Week 1 but had just a further 8 carries and 5 targets in the next three weeks before getting injured. He should play the backup role to Ingram in Kamara’s absence. However, the Saints might hesitate to throw him into a heavy workload.

What should fantasy managers do with Kamara absent?

If you managed to snap Ingram after his arrival in New Orleans, the choice is easy if you have both Ingram and Kamara. Start Ingram in place of Kamara and hope he finds the end zone again. There are concerns regarding the Saints’ offensive line injuries, but Ingram should still have value.

As stated above, it seems unlikely that Jones comes in and receives a heavy workload. The team does not seem ready to trust third-string RB Dwayne Washington, and Montgomery is absent in the dual RB/WR role. This should be Ingram’s backfield, with the only mitigating factor being if the Saints fall behind, limiting his opportunities.

Unfortunately for managers with Kamara but not Ingram, there are not a lot of places to turn to in this backfield. No other back in this group should have a workload high enough to be worth starting this week. In deeper leagues, Jones is the gamble as a potential touchdown scorer if he spells Ingram. But it would be a huge risk.

Thinking longer-term and Kamara’s absence is a major concern. If the Saints lose their next three contests, they could see their playoff hopes fading. With Michael Thomas and Jameis Winston already out for the year, New Orleans may decide to protect Kamara and place him on the IR. There is a lot to be concerned about if you drafted Kamara in your fantasy league this year.
