Indianapolis Colts Opponents 2024: Second Year for Shane Steichen Provides Opportunity To Make Playoffs

The Colts will face eight 2023 playoff teams this season, but only two of them on the road. Here are their 2024 opponents.

The NFL hasn’t released a full schedule yet, but fans already know what teams their favorite teams will be playing. The Indianapolis Colts will face their fellow AFC South teams while also getting to take on the extremely competitive NFC North.

The Colts finished 9-8 last year, which was third in the AFC South. That will give them the third-place schedule, giving them matchups against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, and the New York Giants. The team lost rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson to an injury early in the season, so the fact the Colts won nine games was an impressive feat.

6 of 8 Home Games Are Against Teams That Made Playoffs Last Season

The Colts have some weird splits when it comes to their schedule this year. Only two of their nine road games are against teams that made the playoffs. That is the good news. The bad news is that six of the eight home games are against teams that made the playoffs.

Home field was not an advantage last year, as the Colts went 4-5 at home but a respectable 5-3 at on the road.

They have home matchups against the two best teams in the NFC North: the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions. If you were going to pick your schedule against the NFC North, though, those are the two teams you would want to come to your place.

The Bills and the Steelers may not be playoff teams like they were last year, so there will be opportunities for the Colts to be better at home.

Year 2 Schedule for Shane Steichen Is Setting Up Well

Indianapolis was extremely close to making the playoffs last year. Losing Richardson was tough, especially with coach Shane Steichen in his first season. The Colts did an outstanding job for Steichen, and there is no doubt they made a great decision in hiring him away from the Eagles.

The offense took strides last year, and that was without Richardson for nearly the entire season. Gardner Minshew was a solid quarterback all year, but he doesn’t have near the potential that Richardson does.
