IDP Fantasy Football Report: Waiver Wire Pickups and Early Week 2 Fantasy Rankings

It's time to set lineups, and we've got Week 2 IDP rankings! Who are some top IDP players to plug in for fantasy football managers?

    Published on

Week 1 of football is officially in the books, and it’s time to look ahead for our fantasy football leagues.

The IDP report will provide an early look at several waiver wire priorities of varying league sizes, along with preliminary Week 2 IDP rankings.

Since all leagues are different sizes and have differing IDP requirements, the weekly rankings might be more beneficial than the waiver list.

As usual, the rankings are a reflection of IDP Flex rankings for tackle-heavy formats.

Top Week 2 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups

Keion White, DE, New England Patriots

There were a couple of options for this spot, but we’ll go with Keion White, the younger player on the better defense.

White’s role is very secure, and he will be allowed to play through any struggles, of which he showed very few in Week 1. Despite being raw and not seeing much playing time as a rookie, White may be primed for a Year 2 breakout.

In his first game of 2024, White posted four total tackles, including three solo tackles. He also posted 2.5 sacks and 3 QB hits, which can really blow up for IDP scoring in certain formats.

White moved all around the defensive line, and the Patriots used him on stunts and got him isolated on guards regularly.

Take the shot now in case this is the start of a breakout.

    Zack Baun, LB, Philadelphia Eagles

Zack Baun is the most obvious name who’ll be on here, as the young LB posted a whopping 15 combined tackles and two sacks in his Eagles debut.

As you’ll see in the rankings section, Baun needs to be universally rostered based on his Week 1 performance.

Players who post that type of line are few and far between. I don’t expect that to happen every week, but the fact that it’s possible gives Baun an IDP1 overall weekly ceiling.

If Baun is out there, he’s worth blowing any waiver priority or a large FAAB bid. Get him on your roster and enjoy the breakout.

    DeMarvion Overshown, LB, Dallas Cowboys

Here’s a Year 2 LB who’s likely to see a strong opportunity to not only make a great impression, but be afforded every opportunity to grow.

DeMarvion Overshown hurt his knee and lost his entire rookie year, but he seems primed to really break out in his second season.

Overshown posted a strong 11-tackle performance, along with a sack, in Week 1.

Playing next to veteran Eric Kendricks, Overshown has a strong mentor presence alongside him. He’ll be given the opportunity to struggle, but early on, Overshown is showing why he was a Day 2 pick last year.

Tony Adams, S, New York Jets

Finally, let’s talk DBs with a guy from the Monday night game in Week 1.

The stats aren’t all out yet, but Tony Adams has an incredible role if Week 1 is any indication. Despite playing a primarily deep role last season, that looks drastically different this year.

Adams posted a near 70% box role at safety in Week 1, something that’s typically a strong indicator for IDP performance. He showed that IDP upside in the role, too, posting a 12-tackle performance along with a sack.

Enjoy the possibility of an elite DB season from Adams, and go get him ASAP.

Top IDP Players To Start in Week 2

Quay Walker, LB, Green Bay Packers

Quay Walker was a big question mark coming into this year. Despite posting solid season-long numbers in 2023, the former first-round pick did not perform in the manner expected of someone of his draft status.

That appears to be changing in 2024, though, as Walker is the leader of the new-look Packers defense.

Walker posted 11 tackles in Week 1 and is looking to build on that strong start against the Colts in Week 2.

    E.J. Speed, LB, Indianapolis Colts

On the other side of this game is another question mark from the offseason.

To end 2023, E.J. Speed posted strong numbers as a full-time player at the expense of Zaire Franklin. Many didn’t seem to account for that, but we highlighted Franklin as a potential bust before the year.

If Week 1 is any indication, we’re right back to how we ended 2023. Speed started stronger than Franklin, leading the Colts in total tackles — 10 to eight — and in solo tackles — eight to four.

Maybe this is closer than it was to close 2023, but it appears that Speed should be the more valuable IDP LB. Now, they get Malik Willis and the Packers.

    Fire him up.
