IDP Fantasy Football Report: Waiver Wire Pickups and Early Week 9 Fantasy Rankings

We are onto Week 9, folks. In the weekly IDP report, we'll look at waiver wire targets as well as some early fantasy football rankings.

Week 8 of football is officially in the books, and it’s time to look ahead for our fantasy football leagues. The IDP report will provide an early look at several waiver wire priorities of varying league sizes and preliminary Week 9 IDP rankings.

Since all leagues are different sizes and IDP requirements, the weekly rankings might be more beneficial than the waiver list. If you have any specific questions, hop into our Discord and ask a question! We hope the waivers go in your favor.

Top Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups

Jermaine Johnson, DE, New York Jets

Final call on Jermaine Johnson in redraft leagues. Coming off the bye week, Johnson had an elite performance against the New York Giants. In the game, Johnson played a season-high 73% of snaps. This translated to a season-high in tackles with six, as well as doubling his sack total on the year from two to four. Get him and play him where needed.

Baron Browning, DE, Denver Broncos

Welcome back, Baron Browning! The Denver Broncos defense has missed you. After an initial return in Week 7, Browning popped off in Week 8, posting four tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble.

He is a little more likely to slip through the cracks this week with Denver on bye — don’t let him.

David Mayo, LB, Washington Commanders

David Mayo was almost in the column last week and should have been over Isaiah McDuffie. Late last week, the Washington Commanders placed starting LB Cody Barton on IR, and Mayo was the main benefactor.

Mayo played 87% of snaps in Week 8 and totaled a second straight week of nine tackles. Another three weeks of this, at a minimum, means he must be rostered.

Mack Wilson Sr., LB, New England Patriots

Ja’Whaun Bentley left the game, and the New England Patriots had to adjust. Mack Wilson played a season-high 58% of snaps as well and racked up seven tackles in that time frame.

With the full week to prepare and no playoff hopes, I expect the Patriots to give Wilson a chance to prove it wasn’t a fluke.

Keanu Neal, S, Pittsburgh Steelers

When Minkah Fitzpatrick went down, in came Keanu Neal, and he played all over the defense. He did a great Fitzpatrick impersonation, totaling seven tackles and a forced fumble on almost a full snap share.

With a Thursday night game in Week 9, Neal likely plays a similar role off the strong showing and is worth a stream at DB this week.

Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Chicago Bears

Tyrique Stevenson now has 31 tackles over his last four games, nearly eight per game. This past week it was a career-high 12 tackles.

The matchup with the New Orleans Saints likely means more passing, as Derek Carr is top five in pass attempts this season. Those contests tend to lead to ceiling games for Stevenson, so it seems like a good week to stay in the flames.

Top IDP Players To Start in Week 9

Drue Tranquill, LB, Kansas City Chiefs

Drue Tranquill makes another appearance in the players to start column in Week 9. Why? Well, he’s now ranked as the second-best IDP player in my rankings.

Tranquill totaled 11 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in Week 8. He travels to Germany to take on the Miami Dolphins this week. With a sack in three straight, Tranquill is an elite play in Week 9.

Azeez Al-Shaair, LB, Tennessee Titans

Azeez Al-Shaair totaled 11 tackles in Week 8 — and it was a down week for him. Over his last three games, he’s had 11, 15, and 15 combined tackles.

This week, the Titans play the Steelers on Thursday night, possibly with a backup QB. Pittsburgh will likely want to establish the run, and Al-Shaair will rack up the tackles. Fire him up with high confidence.
