The biggest story coming out of the 2025 NFL Draft was Shedeur Sanders’ slide. After being initially pegged as a Round 1 selection, potentially as high as a top-three pick, he dramatically fell to the fifth round at the event in Green Bay, Wis. As a result, interest from some unexpected places started dredging.
One such name was rumored to be the Philadelphia Eagles. Fresh off their second Super Bowl victory in franchise history, the Eagles needed a backup quarterback after trading Kenny Pickett in the offseason. They eventually took Kyle McCord, but rumors about Sanders being in play made the rounds during the draft. General manager Howie Roseman cleared the air on those possibilities.

As names came off the board one by one — and five quarterbacks were out through two days — there emerged a possibility of an unexpected team to add Sanders to their roster. Names like the Dallas Cowboys emerged as potential candidates after not being considered early-round fits.
However, the Eagles, who clearly wanted to add a quarterback, were another potential destination, with many believing the Cleveland Browns’ jump was in anticipation of that scenario. Appearing on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Roseman was put on trial for that rumor.
He responded, “I would say that there are a lot of players that get taken before you pick in the draft, a lot of good players, and, when you get to your pick, you’re going off the board that you have.”
With no clear answers from one of the best GMs in the game today, Eisen pressed on. However, Roseman did not budge.
“I’m trying to think of where you’re trying to catch me,” he said before adding. “No, I wouldn’t do that with anyone. So I certainly don’t want to deal with one single player that could open the door to many questions.”
While it might never be confirmed from an official source, the Eagles are now moving forward with a tweaked roster that dominated Super Bowl 59. Key trades in the offseason and some shrewd free agency signings were their first steps.
The losses of Milton Williams, Mekhi Becton, Darius Slay, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Josh Sweat earned them a D+ grade. But, as usual, their draft went by perfectly, and they earned a perfect A grade.
With one individual C grade and a plethora of A and A+ grades sprinkled in, Roseman crushed the draft for the most part, a year after drafting the likes of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
