The New York Giants are a wild card with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. They signed Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson in free agency but aren’t completely out of the rookie quarterback market.
Cam Ward going first to the Tennessee Titans seems like a lock, but when will the next quarterback be taken? One former Giant thinks his team needs to leave Green Bay with Sanders.

Would Shedeur Sanders Save Brian Daboll’s Job in New York?
New York’s 2024 season was a disaster. The team went 3-14 and had one of the worst offenses in the NFL (No. 31 in PFSN’s Offense+ metric). Daniel Jones was released in late November, and neither Drew Lock nor Tommy DeVito was the spark the Giants needed.
Signing Wilson and Winston likely takes trading up for Ward off the table, but there’s a strong possibility that Sanders is available at No. 3. The Cleveland Browns own the second pick, and Travis Hunter is the betting favorite for that selection. Abdul Carter can be a game-changing EDGE, but the Giants’ need for a long-term quarterback could sway them to take Sanders.
The Colorado product ended his college career with a bang in 2024, passing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns. He led all of FBS with a 74.0% completion rate and became the all-time Division 1 leader in completion percentage at 71.8%. Sanders brought Colorado back to national prominence, going 9-3 in the regular season before losing the Alamo Bowl.
Will Blackmon won Super Bowl 46 with the Giants and recently appeared on “Good Morning Football”. The former safety wants New York to draft Sanders and thinks head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen’s jobs are on the line if they don’t.

Blackmon was asked if the Giants should take Sanders at No. 3, and he replied, “There’s no question. I don’t believe the Browns will get a quarterback that early. They’ll probably get one later on with the other picks they have. I think they will continue to build their roster outside and maybe get Abdul Carter. But I believe the Giants not only will they, but they have to get Shedeur Sanders.
“[Brian] Daboll and [Joe] Schoen are pretty much on a one-year rental in terms of this team, and they never had a chance to go get their guy. Yes, they inherited Daniel Jones and were able to get him paid. Daboll, I believe in him cause he was coach of the year, but they have to get their quarterback.”
Daboll led the Giants to a Wild Card berth and playoff win in his first year at the helm in 2022. New York went 9-7-1 that season but missed the playoffs in 2023 and bottomed out last season.
“Usually, every GM and coach that comes into town, they get their guy. I believe that the owner, Mara, he’s going to overrule the decision.” Blackmon continued, “He’s going to get a quarterback. Especially with what happened, losing out on Saquon last year and doing what he did. Go get a quarterback. Make this room competitive, just like when Seattle got Russell [Wilson] and Matt Flynn…They have to get this quarterback situation right.”
PFSN’s David Bearman disagrees with Blackmon, having the Giants take Travis Hunter at No. 3 in his latest mock draft. Bearman predicts that Sanders will fall to 18th and the Seattle Seahawks. With Cleveland likely passing on the Colorado quarterback, the Giants could make the draft’s first big splash by taking Sanders third overall.
