The New York Giants surprised many when they selected quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston already on the roster, the move raised eyebrows across the league. Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., however, offered a candid and insightful take on the decision during his recent appearance on The Facility on FS1.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. Breaks Down Giants’ Bold Move to Draft Jaxson Dart
Tracy recounted his reaction to Dart’s selection, explaining that he approached it with a more analytical lens rather than an emotional one.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. has high praise for @Giants 1st Round pick Jaxson dart:
“He fits the mold of what they want in a QB. I’m not going to sit and hear and say he can spin it if he can’t…He can ball.” pic.twitter.com/kibgJW4kqP

“It was more so, you know, kind of like, okay, put your business hat on, I guess you could say more, not more, you know, football hat,” he said. His immediate thoughts centered around the front office’s rationale and how Dart fits into head coach Brian Daboll’s preferred quarterback mold.
Tracy outlined why Dart made sense for the Giants’ system. According to him, Dart embodies many traits that Daboll seeks in a signal-caller. “He fits the mold of what Dab likes at quarterback. You know, he likes to run. He likes to throw the ball deep. He’s athletic,” Tracy emphasized. That description aligns closely with the type of mobile, dual-threat quarterbacks Daboll has previously worked with.
When asked if Dart could “spin it,” Tracy did not hesitate to endorse the rookie’s arm talent. “He can spin it, dog. Like, I’m not going to sit here and tell you he can spin it when he can’t… He can do it. Like he’s one of them people that be out there hooping… You see him playing and you’re like, ‘Wow, yeah, he got it.’”
Despite the praise, Dart is not expected to lead the Giants’ offense immediately. With Wilson and Winston providing veteran depth, Dart enters the season as the presumed QB3. Nonetheless, Tracy’s comments suggest a real belief within the locker room about Dart’s long-term potential.

The Giants’ front office also showed their commitment by signing Dart to a four-year, fully guaranteed $16.98 million contract, per Spotrac. While he may not be immediately thrust into action, the investment speaks to the franchise’s view of him as a future cornerstone.
If Daboll succeeds in molding the offense to its strengths, and if circumstances allow, Dart could see limited starts this season. That experience could prove valuable as the 22-year-old transitions into a more prominent role in the years ahead.
