The New York Giants have been shocking fans left, right, and center with their complex free-agency moves. While it looked like a very likely possibility that the team would get their quarterback of the future with the third overall pick, they went ahead and signed both Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson to major contracts, the latter of which has a long-standing history with the city.
Not only did Wilson win his Super Bowl at the Giants’ home arena, the MetLife Stadium, but he was also a member of the team’s baseball club. Wilson was an official member of the New York Yankees for a brief period, even going up to bat for them. As a result, his fandom immediately after his return to the Big Apple.

Russell Wilson Turns Fanboy for Former Team, New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have gotten off to an extremely hot start to their season. With seven straight wins, the Yankees are starting to resemble their greatness of old. That run continued in another excellent outing against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Yankees set the tone for the game early on with home runs off the first three pitches, leaving the crowd — and Wilson — in a frenzy.
The third one, from Aaron Judge, after Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger got the party started, set Wilson off. Going to X, he reacted to Judge’s homer by eliciting the name of one of the all-time greats, “So sweet! The Great Bambino is smiling! @Yankees”
It led to a final score of 20-9, as the team tallied a record nine home runs en route to their victory. This was a far different result from what the former Super Bowl Champion saw in his brief stint with the team.
After being drafted by the Rangers, Wilson was traded to New York and got to pinch hit for the same Judge he was so complimentary of. He faced off against Max Fried in a Grapefruit League game but struck out in three pitches.

However, the classic Wilson mentality was on full display after the game. “The best thing for me is, I had no fear. I went up there with confidence.
“I was ready. I’ll always remember that. I’ll always remember when they announced my name, and they call you up there, you get to go up to the plate and the crowd’s going crazy, the Yankees fans. I used to go crazy for Derek Jeter when he walked up to the plate.”
He signed off with a heartwarming message. “To have that feeling and that experience, I’ll never, ever forget that.”
