NFL fans believe the New York Giants are primed to draft Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders after Daniel Jones' surprising release.

On Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, the New York Giants made the surprising move to release former starting quarterback Daniel Jones. The quarterback, who signed a four-year, $160 million contract less than two years ago, is expected to clear waivers and become a free agent.

Though it was expected that the Giants would be in the market for a quarterback during the 2025 NFL Draft, this sentiment has grown on social media since the release of the former 2019 sixth overall pick. While names such as Miami’s Cam Ward and Georgia’s Carson Beck are possible, fans online seem to believe Shedeur Sanders is the favorite to step in as Broadway’s newest starting quarterback.

Fan Reaction to Daniel Jones’ Release

Since Jones’ release, college football and NFL fans alike have taken to social media and expressed their belief that the Giants are primed to acquire the services of Sanders in the upcoming NFL Draft.

One user made clear their belief that Jones was heading to the Big Apple next season and would instantly become their QB1. In a reply to a post by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the individual stated, “QB1 is on the way” followed by a gif of Sanders.

Another was quick to note how the official Jones release statement by the Giants was liked by Sanders himself. “Shedeur Sanders LIKED this post👀” they said while attaching a screenshot, which had been personally verified as proof.

What Could Shedeur Sanders Bring to the Giants?

Should the Giants draft Sanders in the upcoming NFL Draft, the organization will be getting a 6’2″, 215-pound quarterback who could solve the club’s QB troubles.

According to Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network, Sanders has strong arm talent, is easily able to progress through his reads mid-play, and has had success reading defensive coverages in the pocket from his time playing at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Since Jones took charge of the offense, the Giants have struggled with consistency in the passing game, something displayed in his 26th-best QB rating of 46.5 this season. The presence of Sanders in this offense, one with young stars such as receiver Malik Nabers and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., could see the Giants evolve into one of the most exciting and high-scoring offenses in the league.

As there are still many variables at play, such as draft position and player interest, it is still unknown whether the Giants will select Sanders to be their starting QB next season and beyond. However, Jones’ release from New York has allowed fans to begin imagining what the Giants’ offense could look like if Sanders is indeed their next franchise quarterback.
