The Dallas Cowboys are the talk of the NFL after trading for former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. Pickens was rumored to have been available in a trade during the recent NFL Draft and will now represent “America’s Team” in 2025.

George Pickens ‘Grateful’ to Be In Dallas
Pickens was recently acquired by the Cowboys, along with a 2027 sixth-round pick, in a trade that sent a 2026 third-round pick and 2027 fifth-round pick to Pittsburgh. Pickens is in the final year of his rookie deal, and the Cowboys will now need to agree on a long-term contract with the receiver, or risk losing him for nothing next year.
⚠️ TRADE ALERT ⚠️
We’ve agreed to terms to acquire WR George Pickens and a 2027 6th-round pick from the Steelers in exchange for a 2026 3rd-round pick and a 2027 5th-round pick.

Pickens had recently been joined in Pittsburgh by former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, who was then immediately handed a lucrative long-term contract extension. It would appear, though, that the Steelers were unwilling to offer a similar deal to Pickens, leading to the team instead recouping some future draft capital for the receiver.
Speaking about the move, publicly, for the first time, Pickens stated that he was excited about his next chapter, saying he likes “the mojo” in Dallas.
Pickens Reveals That ‘Prolific’ Dak Prescott Was Among the First Cowboys Players to Reach Out After Trade
A new team brings with it a new quarterback for Pickens, and the receiver was full of praise for his new offensive captain. According to Cowboys reporter Joseph Hoyt, Pickens revealed that Dak Prescott was one of the first Dallas players to reach out to him after news broke of the trade.
New #Cowboys WR George Pickens said Dak Prescott was one of the first people that reached out to him.
"He's a very prolific QB and a smart QB at that."

As excited as Pickens claims to be about his new surroundings, Prescott is no doubt thrilled to have another top talent to throw to. Pickens has a lot of work to do if he ever wants to be considered as good as superstar receiver CeeDee Lamb, but he is undoubtedly among the best No. 2 receivers in the NFL.
The Cowboys have failed to effectively replace Amari Cooper since trading him to the Cleveland Browns in 2022. Now, with two dominating receivers on the roster, the Cowboys have the look of a top team again. And, after watching their offense flounder in 2024, Pickens’ arrival should be an incredibly exciting one for Dallas fans.
Pickens comes with a history of character concerns, something that even Mike Tomlin was unable to iron out in his three years in Pittsburgh. Regardless, Pickens regularly displayed top-tier receiving ability during his time in Pittsburgh, and raises the ceiling of the Cowboys offense significantly.
