Wednesday morning kicked off with a bombshell in the NFL world. The Dallas Cowboys traded for wide receiver George Pickens, who had been with the Pittsburgh Steelers. At last, the move fans had long anticipated was made, adding a true complement to CeeDee Lamb in the receiving corps.
Pickens’ father seems thrilled about his son’s new destination. He took to his X account to show support for the Cowboys’ latest addition.
George Pickens’ Father Excited for Son’s New Team
One of the quieter offseason storylines has finally come to a close. The Cowboys’ trade for Pickens had been rumored ever since Jerry Jones publicly said the team would pursue significant trades before or after the draft — and that wide receiver was a clear priority this offseason.
On X, Pickens’ father shared his excitement, replying to several posts and commenting on one with: “Yessir! Let’s Get It!”

Dallas sent a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-rounder to Pittsburgh in exchange for Pickens, with a 2027 sixth-round pick coming back to the Cowboys. With Pickens entering the final year of his rookie deal, Dallas is expected to begin working on a contract extension soon.
Pickens has totaled 2,841 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns and 174 catches in his three NFL seasons. While those numbers don’t reflect typical WR1 production, they can be partially explained by the quarterback instability his former team dealt with over the past few years.
What Role Will Pickens Play With Dallas Cowboys?
Pickens immediately steps in as the Cowboys’ No. 2 wide receiver. He brings a legit deep-threat presence with strong hands and the ability to make highlight-reel catches for Dak Prescott. He fills a void Dallas has been trying to address ever since Amari Cooper’s departure.
Dallas’ offense struggled in 2025, largely due to Prescott’s injury. In the PFSN Offense+ Metric, the team ranked 23rd overall with a score of 68.2. The passing game in particular was an issue, finishing 28th in passing success rate and 29th in EPA per dropback.
For the upcoming season, new head coach Brian Schottenheimer is aiming to turn things around by implementing a more balanced approach between the run and pass. Still, the backfield lacks standout talent, especially compared to the upgraded receiver group. Pickens is expected to play a major role, giving the offense a much-needed vertical weapon and injecting explosive playmaking downfield.
