Many fans and analysts believe Shedeur Sanders is the best quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft class and expect him to be a top-five overall pick.
While analysts praise Sanders’ decision-making abilities, arm strength, and accuracy, a former NFL scout has shared his thoughts on why he thinks the Colorado quarterback does not deserve to be a first-round pick.

Former NFL Scout Highlights Shedeur Sanders’ Shortcomings Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft
Former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly has been vocal on why, based on his game film, Sanders deserves to be undrafted.
Kelly shared that after evaluating every snap he took in 2024, he concluded that Sanders throws into the intermediate route level with almost no anticipation and struggles to get the ball out when needed.
The former NFL scout also highlighted how Sanders seems afraid to make a mistake when throwing and tends to pat the ball before the delivery.
Kelly also expressed concerns about Sanders’ medical and character issues in his report, and he also disapproved of his running speed, calling it “average.” The former NFL scout believes Sanders has reached his potential and hit the “ceiling at Colorado.”
“I’ve done the work on Shedeur Sanders. I’ve evaluated every snap he took in 2024 at Colorado. His game film translates to being an undraftable free agent value in the NFL. He throws into the intermediate route level (11-19 yards) with little to no anticipation.
“He struggles to get the ball out on time. He looks like he’s afraid to make a mistake throwing, and he also tends to pat the ball pre-delivery, which further telegraphs where and when he’s throwing.

“In addition, he has character and medical concerns that I outlined in this report. His running speed is very average and could only take what college level (mostly non-top-25 teams) defenses gave him on the ground. He hit his ceiling at Colorado. I am fully convinced if he had a different last name nobody would be talking about him.”
The former NFL scout also criticized the Colorado quarterback for not opting to work out at the NFL Combine because he thought Sanders would get exposed.
The 2025 NFL Draft will take place from April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
