One former Chicago Bears player highlights the troubled season for rookie Caleb Williams as the team sits at 4-4 at the bottom of the NFC North.

Caleb Williams couldn’t help his team against the Arizona Cardinals last week as they lost 29-9. The Chicago Bears failed to score a single touchdown in the game.

Now, former Bears guard Kyle Long has delivered a reality check to Bears fans: Chicago is at the bottom of the NFC North division.

Kyle Long Sees a Dark Road Ahead for Caleb Williams-Led Bears

On the Pushing The Pile podcast, the seven-season veteran of the Bears shared his disappointment. “No [they can’t turn the season around]. I think they are cooked,” said Long. “I think there’s too much infighting. I think they lack inspiration from their head coach.”

The three-time Pro Bowler then dug into the Matt Eberflus’ halftime interview with Evan Washburn while the team was down 21-9. “You can just take a look at Evan Washburn’s interview with Matt Eberflus,” the 35-year-old said.

“That sounds like a mom who’s given up on a couple of kids who have been really bad year old on the day, and she’s like, ‘You know what? You checked out. You wait till your dad gets home. He’s gonna whip your a**.”

“But there’s no dad that’s coming home for the Bears. That’s what got you,” added Long.

The Bears are currently eighth in the playoff picture and have an outside chance to make the postseason.

Williams Repudiates Talks of Confidence Crisis

The No. 1 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft was left frustrated and physically manhandled against the Cardinals. However, that didn’t have an effect on his mindset. On Thursday, Williams faced the media and stated he still has a fight in him to do the job.

“Breaking my confidence?… um, I think one, I understand it’s part of the game,” said Williams. “That’s the defense job to get me down. I do understand also that I have to do better at certain times getting the ball out.

“Understanding the situation. It may be a third down, and those are times where you may hold the ball longer, but if there’s something underneath that could get us a first down….take the check down,” he added.
