Fantasy Injury Update: Travis Etienne, D’Ernest Johnson, and Noah Brown Impacting Week 14 Rankings

Travis Etienne Jr., D'Ernest Johnson, and Noah Brown have been battling injuries lately. Will they see the field in Week 14?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are on edge after seeing their franchise QB Trevor Lawrence hit the turf on Monday night. Throw in a couple of RBs who are battling injury, and the AFC South might become more of a battle. The Houston Texans are part of that race and are also dealing with injuries after seeing rookie sensation Tank Dell go down to injury.

What is the latest injury information on Travis Etienne Jr., D’Ernest Johnson, and Noah Brown, and how could it impact fantasy football rankings?

AFC South Injury Updates

Travis Etienne Jr., RB, Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars were riding high early on in the season but are currently trying to pick up the pieces after a loss to Cincinnati, where they saw Lawrence literally bent backward. Normally, with a backup QB potentially about to start in Week 14, a team would want to lean more on the running game.

Etienne has been the backbone of the RB room this season. He is currently the RB3 on the year, with 771 yards on the ground. He is also a pass-catching threat, with 346 receiving yards on 52 targets. He finished as the RB12 in the loss to the Bengals in Week 13.

However, Etienne has been battling a rib injury for the last couple of weeks, and it has affected his preparation ahead of Week 14. After the game against the Bengals, head coach Doug Pederson said that Etienne came out of Monday’s game sore but “clean.”

Etienne is officially listed as questionable for the matchup against Cleveland, but he should be available to play, especially if Lawrence is sidelined. It is, however, a tough matchup against the Brown, who give up the 12th-fewest fantasy points to opposing RBs.

D’Ernest Johnson, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars

The backup to Etienne this year was rookie Tank Bigsby when we entered the season. The big-body rookie from Auburn never had a chance to get going with Etienne being so efficient and successful, especially early on in the season. Bigsby averaged 13% of the RB carries.

Lately, it seems Bigsby has fallen in the depth chart behind Johnson. Johnson’s RB share has been steadily increasing, going from 20% in Week 10 to 31% in Week 13, and he now seems to be the RB2 on the team. He has even had three red-zone attempts in the past three weeks.

However, Johnson has also been dealing with an injury. He has been bothered by a knee issue lately, and it caused him to log a limited practice this week. Johnson should probably be okay to play on Sunday and now becomes a must-roster player with the injury concerns for Etienne.

With Christian Kirk now out for the season, Johnson may have a bigger-than-normal workload if he takes the field on Sunday. If he is sidelined, Bigsby will return to the conversation.

Noah Brown, WR, Houston Texans

The Texans are another team that had to see one of their stars get injured. Dell was rolled up on a goal line play where Dameon Pierce scored and fractured his fibula. Dell underwent surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

Nico Collins stepped up in his stead, going for 191 yards and one TD. But Collins cannot do it alone, and with TE Dalton Schultz out, the Texans will need reinforcements. They are hopeful that will come in the form of Brown. Brown returned to the field in Week 13 with only two targets, but the teams seemed to be easing him back in after two games missed.

Brown has been dealing with a lingering knee issue lately and was limited at practice on Wednesday. He practiced in full on Thursday but then did not participate on Friday, and it is unclear if it is a maintenance day off or if he had a setback. Brown is listed as questionable for this week, and if he cannot go, we might see Robert Woods getting more opportunities.
