Fantasy Football Injury Report: QB update

Which signal-callers are banged up heading into Week 9?

Jameis Winston, New Orleans Saints

John Hendrix of Sports Illustrated reports Jameis Winston (knee) was ruled out for the remainder of the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winston was brought down on a 3-yard run from behind, and his left leg bent awkwardly beneath him. Winston was assisted off the field and taken directly to the medical tent on the sidelines. Shortly after, he was carried to the cart and taken into the locker room for further evaluation.

Winston was replaced by Trevor Siemian, who would be the Week 9 starter (Taysom Hill remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol). Winston ended the day with 56 passing yards and 1 touchdown to go with 4 carries for 40 yards.

Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers

Darin Gantt of the Panthers’ official site reports Sam Darnold sustained a concussion during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Darnold took a significant hit to his shoulder while carrying the ball and was slow to get up after his head whipped off the ground on impact. He will enter the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Should Darnold be forced to miss time, P.J. Walker would be the starter in Week 9. Before exiting Sunday’s contest, Darnold completed 13 of 24 passes for 129 yards and rushed 8 times for 66 yards.

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott (calf) was ruled out for the Cowboys’ Week 8 contest. He was deemed a game-time decision, and his pregame warmups did nothing to change his status. As the game drew closer, Prescott was trending as if he would miss. As a result, Cooper Rush will start for the Cowboys against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Football Injury Report: RB update

How is the injury bug affecting RB committees heading into Week 9?

James Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars

According to the Jaguars’ PR staff, James Robinson (ankle) was forced out of their Week 8 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. He injured his ankle in the first quarter. Robinson had rushed 4 times for 22 yards at the time of his injury and caught 1 of 2 targets for 17 yards.

Robinson was seen back on the sidelines in the second half in full uniform, but it appears the Jaguars are exercising caution with their No. 1 RB. Carlos Hyde would be the top option should Robinson miss time.

Damien Williams, Chicago Bears

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports Damien Williams exited Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers with a left knee injury. Before the injury, Williams recorded 2 carries for -3 yards. Williams had previously missed Week 6 due to COVID protocols, which allowed Khalil Herbert to take over the RB1 role.

WR Injury Update for Week 9

News for pass catchers is essential in PPR leagues. These are the fantasy-relevant WRs currently on the NFL’s Week 9 injury report.

Jalen Reagor, Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Reagor was forced out of the Eagles’ game against the Detroit Lions due to an ankle injury. Reagor briefly scored a touchdown in the first quarter, but the replay overturned the ruling. This also appears to be the play Reagor was injured on. He was checked on the sideline by trainers then carted to the locker room.

T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts

Mike Wells of ESPN reports T.Y. Hilton is being evaluated for a concussion. He entered the game questionable with a quad injury. Before exiting Sunday’s game, Hilton caught 2 of 5 targets for 16 yards. Assuming he was diagnosed with a concussion, he will enter the NFL’s protocol, where he will have to pass several tests before returning.

TE Injury Update for Week 9

Which tight end injuries should we be mindful of when setting our Week 9 fantasy lineups?

Rob Gronkowski, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Scott Smith of the Buccaneers’ official site reports Rob Gronkowski was ruled out of Sunday’s game at New Orleans due to back spasms. Gronkowski was making his first appearance since Week 3 when he suffered cracked and broken ribs and a punctured lung.

He is now dealing with an entirely new injury. Gronkowski left the game with no receptions and just 1 target. In Gronkowski’s absence, O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate will serve in rotation for Tampa Bay at tight end.
