‘Jerry Jones Masterclass’ – NFL Fans in Disbelief As Matt Eberflus Gets Linked to Dallas Cowboys

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are making coaching changes this offseason. Fans reacted to the news on X that they could hire Matt Eberflus.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been making moves lately. The Cowboys parted ways with former head coach Mike McCarthy and replaced him with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. This move had a mixed response in the fan base, with many calling the hiring uninspired.

Regardless, the team needs to find a new defensive coordinator, too. Former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus has been linked to Jones and the Cowboys.

Fans React to Matt Eberflus As Potential Cowboys Defensive Coordinator

Not all fans were on board with the hiring of Schottenheimer as head coach. They did not like hiring someone who was part of the team that failed this past season. However, most are willing to give him a chance.

Fans were much less forgiving when they heard that Eberflus was in the running to become the next defensive coordinator. They reacted to the news on X, with many calling out Jones directly.

“Jerry jones the best defensive coordinator in terms of the cowboys being successful,” one fan commented.

“Jerry Jones masterclass,” one fan wrote.

“What the Dallas cowboys are about to put on display for next season will NOT be good for my mental health,” one fan added.

While many fans were pessimistic, some were optimistic about Eberflus’ possible hiring.

“People gonna be sh***ing on this move. but honestly not bad. the bears defense was the bright spot before he got fired and the D is what kept Chicago in games,” one fan wrote.

“Exciting move for the Cowboys, Matt Eberflus is a great hire as defensive coordinator, bringing valuable experience and a strong track record, This could be a game-changer for their defense,” one fan commented.

“People may not like this but honesty he is a good DC just not a good HC,” one fan added.

Eberflus was the head coach of the Bears from 2022 to 2024, and most Bears fans did not enjoy his tenure. He was unable to get the most out of his quarterbacks. However, he did a decent job of turning the Bears into a solid defensive team — Chicago’s defense ranked No. 13 in PFN’s Defense+ metric.

He has held a defensive coordinator job before, most recently with the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 to 2021. It will be interesting to see how he performs with the Cowboys.
