The 2025 F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has hardly passed, and fans are already at it, criticizing elements of the championship. McLaren star Lando Norris held his own in the season finale by doing what must be done in order to win the World Championship. While fans would’ve preferred a winner-takes-all scenario, it was still a suspenseful race to watch, as Norris found himself on the brink of losing the title race.
However, the lack of nail-biting action drew many fans into criticizing the overall F1 championship.
F1 Fans Want To See Sao Paulo Host the Season Finale
The Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi hasn’t produced the consistent level of excitement that Interlagos in Brazil has. Max Verstappen’s showdown with Lewis Hamilton marked one of only a few dramatic title deciders we’ve seen at the former — another one being the 4-horse battle of 2010.
São Paulo, on the other hand, is designed for drama; that’s before you even account for the weather. Interlagos has been home to some spectacular racing, including the 2008 title decider, the chaos of 2012, and Verstappen’s 2016 wet-weather masterclass.
Fans want to see more. ESPN F1 writer Nate Saunders advocated for Interlagos to be reinstated as the host of the F1 season finale. “However this one ends, let’s all agree on one thing,” he tweeted. “Bring back Interlagos as the title deciding race.”
A fan questioned whether Arab fans even prefer the title decider to be held in Abu Dhabi. He hinted that it was purely part of the UAE’s “sports washing” efforts. “It’s sad what Arab sportswashing does to different sports,” he wrote. “Do even Arab fans prefer having the final race at a dead Abu Dhabi track, over Brazil?”
Another fan echoed the sentiment, contrasting the overall entertainment of the two tracks. “Yeah,” he wrote. “Not only would it be much more exciting in cases like this, but the pinnacle of motorsport should end on one of the greatest circuits. Instead, it ends on one of the worst.”
