The 2025 Formula One season wrapped up in truly cinematic fashion under the floodlights of Yas Marina, delivering all the intensity and spectacle expected from a championship showdown. After a year filled with razor-thin margins, brilliant strategy calls, and flawless execution in the pits, the finale lived up to the hype. When the checkered flag finally fell, the circuit erupted with fans, teams, and the paddock alike celebrating an unforgettable end to the season.

Lando Norris etched his name into the history books as the 35th Formula 1 World Champion, sealing the title. His McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri secured third place, while outgoing champion Max Verstappen fell just short. A narrow two-point deficit denied him a fifth crown, leaving him to finish the year as runner-up.

And with the new champion officially crowned, the big question remains: where can fans watch the moment Norris receives his trophy, and how can they tune into the FIA Awards Ceremony live?

Why Is Max Verstappen Not Attending the FIA Awards Ceremony?

Verstappen will not be attending the FIA’s end-of-season Prize-Giving Gala in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, after falling ill shortly before the event. The four-time Formula One World Champion had been scheduled to travel to the ceremony to collect his 2025 F1 runners-up trophy. Still, sources indicate he is currently unwell and unable to make the trip.

The FIA Prize-Giving Gala is a formal event where champions from across international motorsport receive their official awards. Under FIA regulations, the top three finishers in the Formula 1 World Championship, along with champions of several other FIA series, are expected to attend.

This gala marks the conclusion of the FIA’s General Assembly week. It brings together title winners from categories such as Formula One, World Rally Championship, World Endurance Championship, Formula E, and Karting, among others. Special recognitions such as Action of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Outstanding Official, and the FIA President’s Awards are also handed out.

In the past, drivers who skipped the ceremony without a valid reason have faced penalties. Lewis Hamilton, for example, missed the 2021 gala after the Abu Dhabi finale and received a £42,000 fine.

However, in Verstappen’s case, his absence is understood to fall under force majeure, an unavoidable circumstance, meaning he is unlikely to face a financial penalty.
