Ex-NFL QB Sounds Alarm Over Colts HC Shane Steichen’s Concerning Comments on Anthony Richardson’s Injury Timeline

Anthony Richardson has had an up-and-down start to his career over his first two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts after the franchise selected him fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has battled injuries and been benched, appearing in just 15 games over that span.

The Colts quarterback has thrown for 2,391 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He has completed just 50.6% of his pass attempts while adding 635 rushing yards and ten touchdowns on 111 carries. Richardson is once again battling an injury and will miss mandatory minicamp. After Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen provided a shocking update, a former NFL quarterback expressed confusion over the situation.

Former NFL QB Reacts To Shane Steichen’s Update On Anthony Richardson

Steichen revealed that there is no timeline for Richardson’s return, as the team simply hopes that he can be back for training camp. James Boyd, who covers the Colts for The Athletic, shared the news on X on Thursday, tweeting:

“#Colts HC Shane Steichen says he hopes QB Anthony Richardson can come back “at some point” during training camp. No timeline.”

Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky reacted to the shocking update, tweeting:

“Huh? At some point? 8 weeks from now?!!?!!?!?”

The latest injury, combined with the extended absence during camp, does not bode well for Richardson, who appeared set to compete with incoming free agent Daniel Jones for the starting gig. Steichen later provided further news on the former fourth overall pick’s injury, which took place during organized team activities, stating:

“Doctors, trainers checked it out. He’s got some aggravation in his AC joint. So we’re gonna sit him out this week. Obviously, he’ll sit out for minicamp. We’ll see when he comes back. Not gonna put a timetable for training camp on it, but when he does come back, we’ll ease him into throwing, and then we’ll go from there. The good thing is he’s not gonna need a procedure right now.”

The Colts’ head coach noted that the injury is frustrating but that his quarterback remains in good spirits. Richardson was said to have been making progress prior to the injury; however, it is yet another setback in his young career. Indianapolis will not look to add another quarterback to its roster at this time.
