Following a blockbuster trade involving Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jalen Ramsey, and Jonnu Smith, players and fans alike were shaken up. Ramsey and Smith had been linked to Pittsburgh in trade talks for months. However, the return was unexpected, as Fitzpatrick returned to Miami, where he began his career.

Ex-Dolphins RB Disgusted With Treatment of Dolphins Stars
After three years with the Dolphins, running back Raheem Mostert is on to Las Vegas. Here, the veteran hopes to replicate his play from two seasons ago, where he recorded over 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his career.
The 10-year veteran spent two seasons with Ramsey and one with Smith. After the trade, Mostert didn’t hold back his thoughts. He believes the Dolphins are treating their stars poorly.
Mostert sounded off on X, where he gave a blunt response to the trade news.
“Hot take: be a Pro-Bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like s***,” said Mostert. “Happy for my guys though! GO BALL OUT!!”

Mostert and Ramsey were Pro Bowlers in 2023. Smith joined them in 2024 after a breakout season of his own.
Mostert, Ramsey, and Smith’s Impressive Play Not Enough To Stay With Dolphins
For Mostert and Smith, the two had the best season(s) of their career with Miami.
Before Mostert’s 1,012 rushing yard season, the Purdue alumnus marked a career high of 891 the season prior. On top of that, Mostert tallied 28 total TDs across his three seasons with the Dolphins, leading the team in that statistic.
For Smith, his NFL journey has been unconventional thus far. Somewhat of a journeyman, the 6-foot-3 tight end finds himself on his fifth NFL squad in Pittsburgh.
Smith began his career with the Tennessee Titans, where the Florida International University alumni performed well but never entirely broke out. He followed that with solid seasons for the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. Finally, Smith landed in Miami, where he and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa found a connection.
Alongside Tagovailoa, Smith earned his first Pro Bowl selection by setting a career high in receiving yards (894) and tying his career high in TDs (8).
Ramsey, the final member of this dispatched Dolphin trio, may not have seen his best days in Miami, but he still played a huge role.
Ramsey helped the Fins defense to a strong season in 2024, yet the team did not make a postseason appearance. Using PFSN’s 2025 NFL Defense+ metric, Ramsey and the Miami defense place 11th. Now heading to Pittsburgh, Ramsey will look to bolster an already loaded secondary.
With three impactful players taking on new journeys in 2025, will the Dolphins take a step forward or backward?
