Two-time Pro Bowl tight end Evan Engram has sent a strong warning to the league after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. A former New York Giant, Engram spent three seasons in Jacksonville, racking up over 2,000 regular-season receiving yards during that time.

Evan Engram Released By the Jacksonville Jaguars
Though still regarded as one of the better receiving tight ends in the league, Engram’s release follows a significant decline in production in 2024. Engram missed eight regular-season games in 2024, but even when healthy, his catch percentage, yards per game, and yards per reception were all the lowest of his three years with the team.
Financial ramifications of Evan Engram’s release in Jacksonville:
🏈Cap savings: $5.98 million.
🏈Dead money charge: $13.5 million.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 6, 2025
But unlike most notable cut situations across the league, Engram’s release doesn’t save the Jaguars a heap of money. It’s unclear whether the team attempted to trade Engram before his release, but Jacksonville will eat $13.5 million in dead money while saving just $5.98 million against the cap.
New Jaguars general manager James Gladstone has made waves. With new head coach Liam Coen, Gladstone is tasked with turning around a team that managed just four wins in 2024 and a franchise that has made just two playoff appearances in the past 17 seasons.
Gladstone’s first moves have included trading away Christian Kirk and releasing Engram, Trevor Lawrence’s top two targets since being drafted in 2021. In Lawrence’s four seasons in the league, Kirk and Engram have accounted for 565 targets, 26.65% of Lawrence’s total NFL throws.
Engram Responds to Release – “They Just Let a MF Dog Loose”
While Lawrence is left wondering if he’ll have anyone to throw to next season, Engram is already looking forward to making a splash with his next team. In a fired-up message to the rest of the NFL, Engram stated that there were no hard feelings towards his old team but suggested that they would be made to regret the decision.
Taking to his social media, Engram posted:
“It’s all love, Jax, But they just let a mf dog loose! Excited for what’s next.”

And Engram has reasons to be bullish. Over his eight-year career, Engram has a 17-game average of 775 receiving yards, which would have been sixth among all tight ends in 2024. He has consistently weighed in with his fair share of touchdowns, averaging one every 4.23 games.
Wherever Engram ends up, he should be a solid weapon in the passing game as long as he’s healthy. Before the 2024 season, Engram managed back-to-back years with a full set of 17 regular-season appearances. Having traded or released over half of the team’s starting pass-catchers, Gladstone’s first free agency and draft with the Jaguars look crucial to his future in the job.
