NFL DFS Week 14: Best Bargain for Each Team, Including James Cook, Tyquan Thornton, Jared Goff, and Brock Purdy

NFL DFS Week 14: Best Bargain for Each Team, Including James Cook, Tyquan Thornton, Jared Goff, and Brock Purdy

If you’re looking for early Week 14 NFL DFS targets before crafting your lineups, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve analyzed each team’s highest-probability game scripts to assess which player on each team has a great shot at outproducing expectations. Some of these guys will be pricey for good reasons. Others might be cheap, high-upside bargains. At any rate, weaponize this NFL betting information as you see fit.

NFL DFS Picks in Week 14

This week, I’m going to continue ignoring high-priced “bargains.” So, if you’re wondering whether to put Derrick Henry or Justin Jefferson in your DFS lineup (and you can get a $10 bonus off a $1 entry on FanDuel), you don’t need any words of non-wisdom from me. But including the next potential breakout star? That’s what we’re pursuing . . .

Thursday Night Football

Rams vs. Raiders. WR Brandon Powell has caught each of his last eight targets for LA. But his ceiling remains relatively low (unless he scores). The comparably affordable Tutu Atwell delivers the upside I’m looking for. A 2021 second-round pick, Atwell is playing for a 2023 starting gig, and he just might get it.

For the Raiders, we know what Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams can do. Digging deeper (i.e., cheaper), Mack Hollins is the unquestioned No. 3 offensive weapon. If you need help rounding out a DFS lineup, Hollins brings strong potential for 16+ points.

Bills vs. Jets

Has James Cook overtaken Devin Singletary as Buffalo’s “lead” back? Too soon to know. He had 20 touches against the Patriots . . . a week after getting only four versus the Lions. But he should still be cheaper than Singletary in DFS, making the rookie a better investment.

For New York, Zonovan Knight has excelled against Chicago and Minnesota. The opposing Bills are naturally tougher on D, despite the recent loss of Von Miller. I’m betting Knight will have a tougher time finding room, opening the door for the much cheaper Ty Johnson to do what he does best: catch and run.

Bengals vs. Browns

In Cincinnati’s top-heavy offense, where can we turn for a bargain? How about backup TE Mitchell Wilcox? If Hayden Hurst (calf injury) misses Week 14, Wilcox could be a 5+ point option you can have for pennies.

For Cleveland, Kareem Hunt just earned his second-most targets (only three, but . . .) since Week 6. It coincided with the return of Deshaun Watson. Hunt has been oddly restrained in the passing game for most of the season. Assuming they’re playing from behind against the Bengals, I like Hunt netting 5+ catches and delivering on his modest DFS price.

Cowboys vs. Texans

Malik Davis. It’s that simple. The Cowboys are favored by more than two touchdowns. They could realistically win by 30+. You don’t need my help selecting which stars will dominate. Davis might be a tenth of Dak Prescott’s cost, but could realistically secure half as many DFS points if he gets plenty of second-half run in a blowout.

For Houston, Jordan Akins was No. 2 on his team with six targets last weekend. He had five the week before. Cheap TEs with that kind of volume are instant fliers.

Lions vs. Vikings

Although Jared Goff will be expensive in single-game DFS contests, he’ll be much more affordable across Sunday slates. With rookie Jameson Williams healthy and getting acclimated, and with DJ Chark gaining some momentum, Goff has a potential top-12 WR corps facing a beatable Minnesota secondary.

Meanwhile, the Vikes have one of the league’s top-heaviest offenses in DFS. But the formerly TD-friendly Adam Thielen should be competitively priced enough to warrant “bargain” consideration in a superb matchup.

Titans vs. Jaguars

Tennessee rookie TE Chigoziem Okonkwo stepped up when Treylon Burks exited early on Sunday, catching four passes for 68 yards. He actually has 30+ receiving yards in five straight outings — incredible for a supposedly No. 2 TE in a run-heavy offense. Beyond Derrick Henry, the cost-effective Okonkwo is as safe as any Titans receiver.

For Jacksonville, how cheap will Marvin Jones Jr. be? The Titans have one of the worst defenses against WRs. Assuming he’s comfortably more affordable than the seemingly “better” Zay Jones, I’d take a shot on the more intriguing bargain — Marvin.

Giants vs. Eagles

Isaiah Hodgins’ targets have climbed from two to three to four to six in successive weeks. The former sixth-round pick might be the Giants’ No. 3 offensive weapon in Week 14. He’s a little-to-lose wager.

And for the fifth or sixth straight week, I’m pushing Quez Watkins. Doesn’t sound as cool as it might have 5-6 weeks ago. But until his price pushes significantly higher, he’ll remain in bargain territory. And if he’s forced to sit due to his injury, shift to the even cheaper Zach Pascal.

Steelers vs. Ravens

Barring something unforeseen, George Pickens will be A) noticeably less expensive than he was last week, thanks to an ugly two-yard performance Sunday, and B) more prominently featured against a Baltimore defense surrendering the sixth-most WR receiving yards. Pickens is too good to be bottled up for long.

For the Ravens, rookie Isaiah Likely remains cheap and integral to their offense. He’s also a weekly threat to score. As alluded to above, there aren’t many No. 2 TEs worth starting in DFS. Likely has plenty of appeal.

Sunday 4 p.m. ET Games

There are three games on this docket featuring, yes, six teams. Here’s the rundown of the best DFS bargains, focusing more on true bargains rather than the best player on each team.

Broncos vs. Chiefs

Denver probably will have no choice but to throw. A lot. Latavius Murray cannot be trusted. I’d recommend the moderately affordable Greg Dulcich.

For Kansas City, assuming Jerick McKinnon is meaningfully less expensive than Isiah Pacheco, I’d take the veteran McKinnon.

49ers vs. Buccaneers

Is Brock Purdy a bargain? Maybe. Or maybe the Bucs will expose the seventh-round rookie. Because he has one of the best dump-off options in the league (Christian McCaffrey), I’d bet on Purdy securing 13+ DFS points, making him a decent bargain depending on the contest.

For Tampa Bay, who can we trust against the Niners’ vaunted defense? Besides the household names, let’s take a big leap with cheap rookie Cade Otton, who’s been displaced by Cameron Brate — but certainly not permanently.

Seahawks vs. Panthers

Even if Kenneth Walker III can play, I like DeeJay Dallas sharing the load (even as a 1B option) against a middling Carolina run defense. A former fourth-round pick, Dallas can deliver if given the opportunity.

And if you want the ultimate boom/bust bargain, Laviska Shenault Jr. is your guy. Shenault has huge-play ability. He might need just one look. As Doris Troy sang nearly 60 years ago, “Just one look, that’s all it took.”

Sunday Night Football

For the Chargers vs. Dolphins, Joshua Kelley should be incredibly affordable. The team trusts him as a 1B to Austin Ekeler. That’s a good combination against a middling-at-best Miami defense.

For the Dolphins, if Jaylen Waddle is sidelined — or even if he isn’t — Trent Sherfield continues to distinguish himself as a go-to DFS flier as long as he’s still cheap.

Monday Night Football

Finally, for the Cardinals vs. Patriots, beyond Arizona’s high-end playmakers, Trey McBride should be extraordinarily affordable while bringing solid 6+ point upside.

And keep tabs on New England rookie Tyquan Thornton, whose blistering speed hasn’t been adequately utilized. With the Patriots no longer in the driver’s seat for a postseason berth, I expect them to feature Thornton more prominently.

Good luck with all of your DFS selections this week.
