Broncos vs. Ravens Prediction
Where did it all go wrong for the Denver Broncos this season? This will be a question that will dominate the offseason conversation, but the Broncos just simply are not able to do much on offense, and it’s led to a woeful 3-8 record as they now sit at the bottom of the AFC West.
While the Broncos’ offense is now averaging the fewest points per game since the 2000 Browns with just 14.27, their defense has truly been the star of the show. Denver is allowing just 17.6 points per game, which is the third-fewest in the entire NFL this season. The defensive talent has been extraordinary, which puts the offense’s downfalls even that much more into the spotlight.
Denver will have their hands full in this matchup with Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. While the Ravens have had their share of struggles on offense recently, Jackson remains one of the league’s most dynamic playmakers and is always a threat to break a defense’s sound structure.
The key to winning this game for Denver, though, is getting their offense going and being able to convert in the red zone. The Broncos are now converting just 37.5% of their red-zone plays into touchdowns this season, which is the lowest amount in the league.
The Ravens are allowing the sixth most passing yards per game this year, so getting into the red zone might not be an issue for this offense. However, they have to convert when they get down there to have a chance.
The Ravens, meanwhile, need to secure a win in a game that they’re heavily favored to keep their hopes of winning the AFC North alive. The Cincinnati Bengals are on a run over the past few weeks and are now getting their best playmaker — Ja’Marr Chase — back into the lineup, which means that Baltimore has even more pressure to walk out of this one with a victory.
The Ravens’ offense suffered a slight setback in Week 12 against the Panthers, but otherwise, they have put up exactly 27 points in three of their last four games. They’ll have a tough time getting free for big plays though in this matchup against the Broncos defense that’s allowing the third-fewest points per game this year.
Meanwhile, the Ravens’ defense needs to be sound throughout the entire game and keep this Broncos offense in check. As long as they don’t have a breakdown in communication that results in a big play, they should be able to keep this offense to a low-point total.
The key for Baltimore to win this game is to execute on offense. The Ravens suffered five drops from their receiving weapons in Week 12, which absolutely cannot happen week in and week out. If their receiving options can step up and help take the pressure off of Lamar, they should have no issue moving to 8-4 on the season.
