Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith shared some honest — and surprising — thoughts about his first Super Bowl win.
DeVonta Smith Says Super Bowl Win ‘Just Kinda Like, Eh’
One of the Eagles’ top performers in 2024 and one of the best college football players of all time, it’s surprising to hear Smith’s nonchalance about a game many young players dream of winning.
Appearing on the “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast, Smith said: “I’m gonna be real with you … For me, you know, I’ve played at the biggest game on every stage … I think for me, the Super Bowl, it felt like that just because I was at home. It was just the emotion of me being home, but like once we won, it was just kinda like, eh.”

Smith, who was born in Amite City, La. — about 75 miles from the site of Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans — said the game felt more like a homecoming than the biggest moment of his career.
He suggested that it only felt like the Super Bowl because it was in his home state. Based on his words, it sounds like if the game had been held elsewhere, it might have felt like just another workday.
The former University of Alabama standout didn’t seem fazed by the moment, either. He finished the game with four catches for 69 yards and a touchdown as the Eagles beat the Chiefs 40-22.
Smith is used to the big stage. He won two national titles at Alabama in 2017 and 2020 and earned College Football Playoff MVP honors during the latter run.
As surprising as his feelings may be, Smith isn’t alone in how he felt.
Aaron Rodgers, MVP of Super Bowl 45, said he felt “emptiness” after beating the Steelers in 2011.
In his Netflix documentary, Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, the four-time NFL MVP said, “Now I’ve accomplished the only thing that I really, really wanted to do in my life. Now, what? I was like, ‘Did I aim at the wrong thing, or did I spend too much time thinking about stuff that ultimately doesn’t give you true happiness?’”
The Super Bowl is the biggest game most NFL players will ever play. It’s rare to hear someone walk away from a win without feeling a sense of accomplishment, especially after making a big impact like Smith and Rodgers did. But their words offer a glimpse into the mindset of a different kind of athlete — one that fans might not expect.
Maybe a second ring would change Smith’s feelings. The Eagles are listed at +600 to win their third Super Bowl in 2026, according to ESPN BET.
