The Philadelphia Eagles have been on a tear over the past few years. Since Jalen Hurts emerged as an MVP candidate in 2022, the team has reached two of the last three Super Bowls, winning the most recent one in New Orleans with a dominant performance against the back-to-back defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Year after year, they’ve consistently made the playoffs and proven to be a formidable force. But at the core of their success, alongside Hurts, has been head coach Nick Sirianni. As Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie recently made clear, Sirianni is set to receive a massive contract extension in recognition of his exceptional leadership.
Jeffrey Lurie Promises a Nick Sirianni Contract Extension
Until a few months ago, Nick Sirianni wasn’t exactly a household name, not just in the NFL, but especially in Philadelphia. While he had led the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance, the demanding nature of the city meant fans expected immediate results.
A late-season collapse in 2023, where they lost six of their last seven games, coupled with a sluggish 2-2 start to the 2024 season, had many questioning his job security. It seemed like he might be on the hot seat, with his future in jeopardy.
However, Sirianni responded by guiding the Eagles to a remarkable 16-1 run, culminating in a dominant 40-22 victory in Super Bowl LIX. Not only did he secure his job for the short term, but he also solidified his long-term future with the team.
“Nick is going to be our coach. We don’t talk publicly [about contracts], we never have, but you guys I’m sure will find out soon enough that Nick will be our coach going forward,” Lurie said at his annual news conference at the league meetings. “He has done an outstanding job.”
Since joining the team in 2021, Nick Sirianni has been a dominant force, compiling a 48-20 record. That impressive win percentage ranks as the third-highest for a coach in the Super Bowl era. With his five-year contract set to expire at the end of the 2025 season, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie is more than eager to extend his tenure with the team for the long haul.
“Everything that I had hoped for with Nick, he embodies, whether it’s connection, intelligence in so many ways from football intelligence, emotional intelligence, managing of people, hiring of assistant coaches, growth mindset at all times.”
As recently as October, there were questions surrounding Nick Sirianni’s future, but he has since checked off every box and answered every challenge thrown his way. Now, as one of only two coaches to have won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, his future in the City of Brotherly Love appears secure.
