Despite a commendable season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, the 2025 campaign has not been kind to star wide receiver A.J. Brown thus far.
He is not performing at the level he’s proven capable of time and time again but instead is showing frustration off the field and a lack of consistency on it. It’s worth noting the blame does not fall solely on Brown, as franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts and the entire passing attack are underperforming.
Still, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman isn’t one to wait around for production, so Brown seeing a change of scenery in the coming weeks isn’t out of the equation.

Would the Eagles Be Willing To Move A.J. Brown to the In-State Rival Pittsburgh Steelers?
The decision the Pittsburgh Steelers made to sign QB Aaron Rodgers appears to be the best they could have made over the offseason. The Steelers are 4-1 and look like a serious Super Bowl contender in the AFC.
With that said, Pittsburgh’s front office will likely look to make a major move or two ahead of the NFL trade deadline to solidify their place in the league’s landscape. This is very possibly Rodgers’ last season, so it’s now or never to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin predicts the Steelers could trade for Brown, pairing him with his former Ole Miss teammate, D.K. Metcalf.
“Why on Earth would the Steelers deal for Brown when they already spent picks and big money to land Brown’s former college teammate, DK Metcalf, this offseason?” Benjamin wrote. “Because they’re all in on winning with Aaron Rodgers this year, and their 4-1 start suggests they’ll remain aggressive in roster-building.”
Giving Rodgers a duo of Brown and Metcalf to throw to is dangerous. Both are physical specimens capable of winning 50-50 balls and making monstrous plays after the catch. PFSN has Brown at an impact score of 71.8 (No. 55 among WRs), while Metcalf comes in with an impressive 85.1 (No. 11 among WRs).
The 28-year-old Eagles wideout likely wouldn’t have problems with joining the Steelers, given his familiarity with Metcalf and seeing Rodgers’ play so far this year.
Benjamin continued, “Freiermuth doesn’t have a major role in Steel City anymore, but he might offer both blocking and pass-catching depth as a potential Dallas Goedert successor. Highsmith, meanwhile, is often nicked up but a proven edge rusher (29 sacks, 56 quarterback hits since 2022) to help fill the Eagles’ blatant need there.
“Philadelphia might also send one of its own reserve pass-rushers, like Azeez Ojulari, back to Pittsburgh in this scenario,” Benjamin concluded.
Philadelphia fans would be sad to see Brown go because of his impact on their Super Bowl run, but hopefully Eagles fans have learned to trust Roseman’s decision-making by now.
