Who Are the Best Kickers To Draft in Dynasty?
Brandon Aubrey
Brandon Aubrey’s story is one of those too-funny-to-be-true-type stories. He’s a former soccer player who wasn’t good enough to play professionally at a high level. So, he was at home watching football (the American version) with his wife when she said to him, “You could do that.” He thought to himself, “Yes, I can.” And then he did.
Aubrey trained for four years with a kicking coach and learned how to apply his soccer skills to kicking a football. In 2022 and 2023, he kicked in the USFL for the Birmingham Stallions. His performance got him noticed by NFL teams, and the Cowboys signed him after the 2023 USFL season was complete.
All Aubrey did in his first NFL season at age 28 was lead all kickers in fantasy points per game (ppg) … by a lot. His 10.4 ppg was 1.1 ppg ahead of the next kicker.
Aubrey went 36 for 38 from the field and did not miss any of his 10 kicks from 50+. He did miss three extra points, which, while annoying, doesn’t really move the needle on his fantasy value.
Playing on one of the best offenses in football with a coach who sometimes isn’t as aggressive as he should be on fourth down, Aubrey has plenty of opportunities to score fantasy points. He can be your kicker for the next 10 years.
Jake Bates
There’s a very good chance most of you don’t know who Jake Bates is. The rookie kicker spent the early part of this season in the UFL with the Michigan Panthers. His first-ever field goal attempt was a 64-yard game-winner as time expired.
The kid has a huge leg, and we know head coach Dan Campbell won’t be afraid to send him out for long attempts. Bates nailed three kicks from 60+ in his debut UFL season.
Like the Cowboys, the Lions possess one of the best offenses in the NFL. And we want kickers on good offenses.
Campbell’s fourth-down aggressiveness is a bit of a problem for “gimme” field goals, but Bates should still see more scoring chances than kickers on worse offenses.
Bates is likely going to be a complete afterthought in fantasy drafts. If you’re the type to be the last team to draft a kicker, take him.
